Been having the highest success to stand ratio ever for me the past couple months. I haven’t got out more than some weekend evenings for a few stands, or a single stand on a Sunday night when I have free time for most all of February and March…. But boy! not kidding, i did it. it all started when my son said that he and his buddy wanted to try eating coyote. they said they saw steve rinella on meat eater do it. they said they were serious so...i agreed. i took this one and cut the back straps out then i soaked it in salt water for a day and a half to get the blood out, changing the water every so often and keeping it cool in the garage fridge so the wife wouldnt get... whats for dinner ? At my camp in 3C, I have plenty of coyote sign. Most recently tracks and dropping is the fresh snow. I have been night hunting them for 3 years at this location and just can not connect. Today I went out just before sunset, sat down until 6:00. Then started the call. I was playing mouse noises for 15-20 minutes. Sat quiet for 10. Then I heard a bark from over the ridge, so I played a female howl. As soon as the howl was over they responded with all kinds of howls, yips and barks. Sounded... I've had success trapping over the last 10 years, and I've called in a few coyotes and killed foxes while predator hunting, but this weekend was tough. I linked up with 2 buddies who have had success in the past. We hunted farm ground, where I even have a bait pile, and state forests. We cut a few trails and set up all day Friday and all day and Night Saturday. Half hour sets, usually starting with a locating call and then to some sort of distress.
