Yesterday I went out to sight in my new rifle and do some coyote calling. The first 5 calling stands I didn't see or hear a thing. On my way to the sixth calling stand I drove right by the rancher's house. I noticed one of his dogs was about 150 yards away from the house out in the direction I was going. Called in a pair of reds at sunset last night, they were initially more interested in planning with one another than the distressed prey which had been playing for 20minutes. Watched them for 10 minutes before one came to 200yards. Frontal shot dropped. Missed twice at the second running off around 300yards. Upon inspection, bullet entered the chest and exited mid back. Yesterday my son Wes and I got to hunt on a ranch that we have not hunted together in many years. On the first stand we made we had two coyotes run up to about 40 yards from my XWAVE and Wes shot the closest coyote when it stopped. He shot it with a 223 Rem with a 35 gr NTX Lead Free bullet. Yesterday my coyote hunting buddy jp7mag killed two big male coyotes with his 243 Win. On two different calling stands both of these big males starting screaming challenges at us as soon as they heard the "Adult Rat in Distress" sound. I was laying down with my shotgun and switched sounds to "Coyote Pair" sound and let it play through one time and then muted the sound. The first coyote I got yesterday I was sitting next to a big bush with my shotgun on a steep bank in a canyon bottom. I had my foxpro on the ranch road in the canyon bottom and I was about 25 ft up the 40 foot tall bank. I started out using Adult Rat Distress and after about 5 minutes I switched to Bay Bee Cottontail. Anout 5 minutes later I switched to Jack Rabbit Distress on full volume.
