I have had this JM for a little while now, purchased from a bonsai nursery and raw stock. I am an interested in both bonsai and also just a general collector of JMs. The tree is currently about 4’ tall, with a trunk about 2” at its width, and is growing vigorously. I was planning to just keep it trimmed as a JM, and not bonsai it. If I continue with this path, I will probably need to put it in a different pot. The other alternative is to convert it to bonsai. For those interested in both JMs and bonsai, what would you do with this tree?

I visited a nice man that seems to just want to see his passion grow.
$40 for the Ficus, Jade and Elm. He threw in a Maple and an extra Ficus at no charge.

I put this here because I couldn't poat a picture in the weekly thread for some reason. So my parents saw this growing and my dad tried to save it (he covered the base with bricks). It looks like one half is dead but the other half looks healthy and looks like another "sprout" (?) Is coming out of the base, would I be able to save it and maybe even turn it into a bonsai.

(Tl;dr at the end)
Hello, dear people of the bonsai community! I am completely new to your fascinating hobby. I have been gardening pretty successfully for most of my life and grew a lot of plants, from succulents and carnivores to fruit and veggies, but never a bonsai before. I want to try my best though and hope to learn a lot from all of you :)
I am mostly curious about seeing a plant grow and flourish as well as the creative process of shaping it, not really about buying a finished product. So I went to my local nursery yesterday, but I skipped the bonsai section completely and instea ..read more

I bought this tree last year and it sprouted some brownish leaves with some drying tips, but I put it down to hot weather and it being relocated.
However, the same thing is happening this year now that it's pushing out new spring growth. I'm certain the tree has been sufficiently watered and hasn't dried out. I hope someone can pitch in on what it might be.
My phone is actually making the leaves look greener than they are in person.
Any advice is appreciated.

Any advice on this black willow? I've just been letting it grow the last few years, because I'm unsure what to do with it!
It has a very short and stout base that I think could almost be turned into some type of Sumo/shohin-ish tree, but it has also grown very long whippy branches I could put a ton of crazy movement into!
This is my first and only black willow, and I don't see them used too often, so I would love any advice or suggestions!
Chop it? Wire it? Leave it be? Any advice, thanks!

I posted this tree last week and labeled it "peak bloom" but that was premature.
Crabapple blooms are fully open today, this is now really the peak, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. This is one of my favorite trees in my collection.
I will cut off most of the flowers this weekend, leaving just a few to develop into fruit. Mono no aware is a Japanese phrase about sensitivity to/enjoyment in the beauty of ephemeral/ temporary things. Definitely applies here.
The variety is Marry Potter, if you would like one of your own, head over to www.evergreengardenworks.com Brent and David have the ..read more
