I recently obtained a marlin 336y. This is the youth model and has the short barrel. The rifle was in good condition but I noticed the fore grip isn't tight to the front of the receiver. There's play where its strapped over the barrel and where it butts up to the end of the receiver. The grip moves maybe a 1/8 of an inch up or down. Is this a problem with most marlins that are made by remington and is there an easy way to fix this or do I need to have it professionally taken care of ..read more

My first Marlin CF rifle is coming my way tomorrow and I don't know what it is. Straight grip, .444 with a stock medallion but a 24" barrel that looks to be not original to the gun. It was cheap enough to not worry about it too much. Pawn shop .444s are cheaper if you buy a pair and offer half asking price. I am a fan of the 358 Winchester so when a local gun shop got a lever action 358 trade in they gave me a call. I was thinking BLR or if my Irish luck was in place an 88 Winchester. At the shop the fellow handed me a Marlin 336 rechambered to 358 Winchester! I have seen 336 rechambered to 356 but 358!! Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I read somewhere that a 336/358 conversion was dangerous. Is this true?
