Food Recommendations before a yoga class?

Hey guys, those who are regulars in yoga, what’s the golden standard of attending a yoga class, should I eat before a class or should I go hungry? I take supplements for GI issues, and before a yoga class I don’t usually take them or eat anything except drinking some herbal tea, and maybe eating an apple or a protein bar. I feel like eating before it will make me a little bloaty and I would throw up after. The class is not early unfortunately it’s just after breakfast at 10.00am and I always go like hungry. Anyone would advise what to eat and what to expect during or after the yoga class. su ..read more

Pincha mayurasana press up

I am working hard on my press up to forearm stand and would love any advice. One of my favorite teachers keeps telling me that once I unlock my press up it will change my entire practice and that handstand will be much easier for me too. She says I'm "so close" and I'm "right there" but The strength it takes to bring my legs up feels from the floor feels so difficult. I am comfortable bringing my legs up from a wide legged forward fold into headstand, can hold a strong, short dolphin for a long time comfortably, and in general am fairly strong, but there's something in my mind and/or body tha ..read more

Is there such a thing as high cobra?

In vinyasa I only ever hear cues for low cobra or updog when moving thru chaturanga. Personally I hate updog bc having my knees thighs and shins off the ground hurts my low back. But I like to do a modified updog with my knees and thighs on the ground with updog-esque arms. Basically a cobra with less bent elbows. It feels so goooooddddd ? But I never hear teachers cue this modification and I never really see other students doing it, which makes me wonder if I’m just getting myself into a random unhelpful pose. submitted by /u/houdiniibacon [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I have been switching up during my practice to give the wrists a break sometimes I will do plank, chataranga, etc. with my fists rather than hand spread wide using normal technique with fingers totally engaged. Any commentary on this? submitted by /u/Better-Butterfly-309 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is it weird for a single, straight man to show up to yoga classes?

I'm a 29-year-old, single, straight male who is interested in doing yoga. I'm going to be honest - I am interested in meeting single women. But I, of course, realize that going to yoga just to hit on women won't be welcome, and I'm not going to do that. I actually do have a legitimate reason to go to yoga. I work at a courthouse, and see the most tragic stuff. It emotionally gets to be very difficult to process tragedy after tragedy on a daily basis. I'm looking into ways to process this healthily, and I've seen a couple of people mention yoga. So yeah, would it be weird for a single, straigh ..read more

Bad experience with new teacher

Checked out a class on a different day at my regular studio. Was very small class, probably only 10 people which I found nice to have the space. Usually there’s 25+ in the class. So maybe the small class had something to do with my unusual and negative experience… The teacher gave me hands-on adjustments probably 4-5 times throughout class. I’m a beginner who has only done around 50 classes and know that my alignment and form is not very good. In fact, I’ve been eager for hands-on adjustments from my other teachers but probably only have received a couple, ever. But I’m sorry but I was very t ..read more

Hi, I'm trying to find Yoga exercises for a healthier pelvic floor. Does Garland pose help strengthen the pelvic floor, relax it or both? I've seen conflicting information. Thanks submitted by /u/Decipher04 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
