Good morning! I am newish to peafowl and last year began acquiring a group of chicks to begin a mixed flock, which I would like to split into mating pens next year. I am now at the stage where I pretty much know who is going to be what as far as color/sex. I have some thoughts on who to match with whom, but I would love input... Can anyone offer suggestions on how to pair or match these groups in breeding pens? Are there any that you would recommend just removing from the flock (selling) or... Read more ..read more

Peahen unable to stand...She was fine this morning, eating and visting on the back porch. My husband went out 4 or 5 hrs later and found her laying down on her side unable to stand. We checked to see if she is egg bound, and couldn't feel anything. She layed an egg yesterday, and seemed fine. But I've noticed her wings droopy more than usual. I don't know what to do? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you ..read more

Mating or fighting injury?

My white peahen has a very bloody neck today. Is this what happens during mating ? Or is she having a fight with the other peahen? She shares a pen with a white peacock and an Indian Blue peahen. They are all about a couple of weeks short of being 1 year old. I have never kept peafowl before, but she does not look well to me. She has retreated away from the other two and is on her perch with wings down and eyes closed. Any insight on how I can help her would be appreciated. Thank you ..read more

I'm new to Peafowls and I've been reading a lot about them.. I'm confused about the difference between Dark Pied and Split White.. some people said its the same and others said its two different colors.. I bought 2 Peafowls.. first one is a 3 years old Peahen (BTW she produced 3 White and 3 IB chicks this year) and the second is 2 months Peachick with more White flying feathers than in these Pictures (I would like to know its gender if you can help me). I would like to know if these two... Read more ..read more

Someone told me and my mother that a Peacock will kill Chicks, like peck them to death or something. And that you can not keep them with chickens at all. I am not so sure that I believe him. Just want to know the truth and be sure ..read more

Hey, I went out to give the peafowl some sunflower seeds, and usually the hen will come right up to eat them but today she was just pacing the fence. She would go in the coop run out get the odd sunflower seed then start pacing again. She just layed her first egg of the year yesterday and I took it so I could incubate it, if that would have anything to do with it. She did not lay one today but sometimes they lay once every two days. She seems to be looking for something, is she looking for... Read more ..read more

My three white peafowl are almost a year old and I was hoping for some ideas as to their sex. The 3 are identical in size and feathering, and almost impossible to tell apart. I'm assuming they are either all female or male. It was a windy day when I took pics so don't worry about any ruffled looking feathers ..read more

Does anyone have pics of a peach peachick at around a week or two old? I hatched out a peachick that is stumping me on color. Pale cream on the flights and shoulder feathers. Father is either a purple BS or Purple Pied White-eyed split Black Shoulder and mother is one of these four…Purple Pied, Purple Black Shoulder, or Purple Silver Pied. This is the info I was given from the breeder. Any thoughts? Thanks ..read more

Hello! Today I had to pull 2 peachicks from mom for their survival. They always end up missing so we pulled these guys. They haven’t stopped crying out all day, and I’m worried that they’ll stress themselves out too much. Is there anything I can do to ease this? They did fine when I had them in my sweatshirt. But they’re back in their heated area for the night and they’re crying out ..read more

Hey I have a peacock aviary and it’s a fair size (800 square feet) so not huge but still big, currently it holds 3 peacocks but may keep some babies. And it has roosts and some brushes and I’m just wondering what else they like in their pens. Lots of pics if you can ..read more
