What are people's thoughts on practicing in shorter periods throughout the day? I've been learning for about 18 months now and am finding that lately I hit a hard wall where I can't seem to force myself to practice for more than 30-45 minutes at a time before I just can't seem to fully concentrate. I took about a 2 month hiatus due to work stress and picked back up couple of weeks ago. Maybe trying to practice for 30 minutes at a time a few times a day might be more beneficial, at least until I can break past this mental block? Just curious if others have experienced this and have found succe ..read more

Canon in D, I tried to represent in the picture how I think I should play it, just by following the alignment between the clefs (ignore the missing sharps) submitted by /u/Abiarraj [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi there. This sunday im going to buy my first piano. First of all, im buying an used electric piano with 88 weighed keys. What should i look out for when buying used? I want to learn to play myself, but i also have a daugther, 7 years old, who wants to learn piano aswell. What content is out there for both adult and young beginners? Looking for something like an app with practice courses or a youtube channel. Any reccomendations? We both start at ground zero! :D submitted by /u/thatmakker [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

About 10 years ago, I used to play piano quite a lot for fun to help with songwriting. But my keyboard broke and I got disconnected from it. Now I'm going back to my passion and my Dad threw away all my music notes! So I'm having to relearn all my songs. There's one I just can't figure out the chords to. Could anyone help? submitted by /u/Barnacle-Pete [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How and where to learn advanced accompainment/improv techniques

I've been playing piano since when i were 7 years old, and i also went to the conservatory of music. I kinda drop the conservatory at half way through and apart from music scale, Hanon and any exercise to make my hands more "free" to move, what i did it's just learning how to learn new advanced piece. In the recent years i joined some groups where i play the accompainment with the piano. Kinda a band? Everything i saw on youtube it's pretty basic and i already did all of that. In those years i also develop some custom rythm that i like to put in my accompainment sometimes while playing But wh ..read more

Hi! Does anyone know the best keyboard to get if I'm interested in both learning to play piano and possibly being in a band as a keyboardist (80s style music possibly). I have no idea where to start. I want to spend under $200. Thanks! submitted by /u/sistersofmeowcy [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do I transition from classical sheet music to jamming it out on Jazz?

I for most of my life have been trained to play piano from sheet music, and never even learned chords and all that. I can only read sheet music and with a slow process learned to play relatively difficult pieces (Things like Animenz Unravel, moonlight sonata 3rd movement, and my last piece was a fairly tough chopin etude.) Eventually got burnt out, and just stopped wanting to play piano, since playing piano was like reading a sentence by paying to each letter individually than recognizing a word. Recently for the past month, I've been really into listening to people play jazz on the piano and ..read more
