She was diagnozed by having felt a lump while shaving her armpit and going to get it checked. It was confirmed it was cancerous and she has 3 masses in her breast ( one pea sized one and two 1mm sized ones ). She had biopsy and other tests done but we are still waiting for the results. She had a routine mammogram 6 months ago and it was all good. Is this a bad sign ( meaning it is some agressive , fast spreading cancer), or a good sign ( meaning this is caught very early and the prognosis are good)? My mom died in December last year of breaat cancer very young so I am mortified. My aunt helpe ..read more

I want to say I'm sorry to metastatic women and men for my complaining about what you're going to read, but I'm depressed about this whole cancer journey and it's really putting a damper mentally on my husband and myself. What is happening to us? I'm only 5 years in remission of breast cancer and now my husband has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer and a tumor near his brain. He had to shave his beard for radiation treatments and soon chemo too. I haven't seen him without a beard since he was 32 and now he's 65. He looks like a different person! I must have looked so different to him too - li ..read more

I start chemo in a week, should I donate my hair?

I have very long, healthy hair that I love very much. I would prefer to keep it but it seems unlikely that I will get to. Does anyone have any anecdotes about keeping their hair as the patient - or the flip side, have you donated your hair before? Is there a best way to do it? If I don't get to keep it I'd love if I could help someone else out. Thanks for any help and advice! submitted by /u/stellaluna92 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Period stopped due to chemo

I’ve been receiving chemotherapy for about half a year now. I still got my period so far (although irregularly) but now I’m 17 days over time. Last period I was 11 days over time and the one before that 7 days. For some reason I’m getting the feeling that it won’t come back for a while. I’m not feeling the symptoms I usually get if I were going to have my period soon. My doctor is not surprised or worried, she says chemo puts a lot of stress on the body and period can stop for a while. Ladies, did your period stop due to chemo and when did it start again? Do you have irregular periods due to ..read more

I'm just over a year in on my cancer journey. Chronically depleted of magnesium and potassium. I'm prescribed both. And STILL testing in the basement. How does your care team handle this for you? I feel like I'm always going to be this way. And I'm eating really well. Best food available, getting my calories in... protein is tougher..but what the heck. I haven't gotten an answer to this, maybe I'm not asking the right questions? submitted by /u/Aware-Marketing9946 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Cancer Medication denied

Hi everyone, I'm reaching out because my father, who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer two years ago, is now facing another critical challenge. Recently, doctors found tumors in his brain that have been growing. He's been on Tagrisso, a targeted treatment, and his doctors at Mayo Clinic recommended increasing his dosage. Unfortunately, our insurance company has denied coverage for this increased dose, even after an APPEAL. It's baffling and deeply frustrating that a treatment, which is standard for his condition, would be denied by the insurance. My father has one of the highest tier p ..read more

Advice from users please. I am becoming allergic, intolerant, whatever to tape. I have a long standing wound that surprise! Is slow to heal (17 mos and counting). I have been using silicone tape lately but now, no more. The wound is right chest and it weeps blah blah blah so it must be packed and covered and that in itself is not a big deal but the skin around the wound has deteriorated. Shingles last fall and I lost several inches of flesh, right next to the wound. Didnt help but I have been managing w various and careful taping of the AB pads. Paper tape, regular sports tape, waterproof tap ..read more

27 with Lung Neuroendocrine Tumor

I have been diagnosed with a primary malignant neuroendocrine tumor (NET) of the lung. The tumor isn't within my lung, but has pushed on and closed off my bronchial tube leading to the middle lobe of my right lung. I had no idea about this tumor until I became sick at the first of the year. Due to the extremely slow growth rate of the NET, chemotherapy and radiation are off the table as options for me. Currently it's looking like major surgery is my best and only option for me. I'm likely going to lose at least the lower two lobes of my right lung to enable them access to remove the tumor ..read more

Has anyone tried counseling or therapy? Was it helpful?

What actually happens in those sessions? What do you talk about? I'm in remission and technically "finished" with treatment. I wouldn't know what to even say to a counselor or therapist. I have the opportunity to get a limited number of free short-term counseling sessions but I don't have an actual goal for those sessions, so is there any point in trying? I don't want to discuss my whole life story lol submitted by /u/Electrical_Paint5568 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
