Leaders. How was your Tango journey?

Hello, just curious how was your journey as leaders in Tango? How long it took you? So, I am in a big city with various Tango studios. I've been taking tango group lessons for 6 months. The issue is at practicas there are no beginners. I take lessons in 2 studios and out of 30 beginners taking lessons, I am probably the only one who goes to practicas. Other beginner followers don't go to practicas for various reasons, (other commitments etc.) At practicas, I only see followers at... Read more ..read more

Have you ever danced Tango Vals?

I'd say in Argentina, this is not a very popular subgenre of tango. However, I must confess that musically it is one of my favorites. Certainly, it is a combination of techniques and there is very little I know about waltz dancing. I was wondering if anyone has experience attempting to dance this style. To illustrate, here is a tango vals lesson by Juan Martin Carrara & Stefania Colina, recorded in an Argentine tango academy. They are dancing to “Soñar y nada más” by Carlos Roldán... Hi everyone! I came across this article about the effects of tango in improving patients with Parkinson’s disease and wanted to share it. Mainly, it seems that practicing certain steps of the dance helps them maintain balance and reduce their risk of falling. I know I read recently a thread about the benefits of tango in fighting Alzheimer’s, and this is another instance of apparently successful therapeutic tango. This study conducted in Florida State University by a medical student named... Read more ..read more

This topic came up on another thread and I decided to start a new thread because I would like for leaders to comment. There has been discussion on how leaders discreetly and appropriately vs inappropriately “test” a followers abilities to determine what level figures they can follow. Please feel free to add your insights. And followers also ..read more

Hi everyone! I came across this recent article and wanted to share it… It’s in Spanish, but I’ll translate here the highlights. I didn’t know very much about taxi-dancers’ roles, so it was nice reading an in-depth account of their jobs. "The taxi dancers in question, Horacio Lobo (from Carmen de Patagones), Nahuel Guzmán (from Mar del Plata), and Javier Silva (from Bogotá, Colombia), are taxi-dancers, around thirty years old, with very diverse backgrounds, and take this occupation... Design the Best Tango Lesson/Course: Theory/Experiment

Everyone has a different opinion on how tango "should be taught", people differ on what is most important, when to introduce elements, and how to teach. I thought it would be an interesting "thought experiment" if people theory crafted how they would design and run classes with the goal of getting people dancing tango. Situation 1 An introduction class to tango, you have one hour to run a class to introduce people completely new to tango to the basics. What would you teach... Read more ..read more

Hi. What can experienced milongueros say about personal hygiene found in milongas in Central and Eastern Europe or anywhere else? I avoid mentioning specific country or city in my question/title, however I would appreciate specific locations. Dutch people have strong reputation of being honest. I certainly like that. Thanks to all ..read more

I just came across an announcement about a festival that is aimed not only at dancers, but also at tango painters, photographers, poets, DJs and musicians. Actually, this is an interesting approach to bringing the different tango worlds together. What do you think? Is anyone going there? https://ionionartscenter.gr/2023/12...inar-art-style-dance-school-olga-galiatsatou ..read more

Encuentro Event Go? What say?

I was invited to do an encuentro event a couple of years. I turned down the invitation each time. to you if you enjoy going, but I wasn't sure I liked the idea of a by invitation only event, and I have met ladies who were hurt by not being invited and particularly distressed were those invited at first but are no longer accepted at the event one year to the next. I also realized maybe I'm not being fair to encuentros -- lots of clubs have limits on memberships -- is invitation... Read more ..read more

Tango Therapy for Alzheimers

This was an interesting article about how using Tango dancing as therapy had positive results in Alzheimers patients, and they actually did a study. "‘Tango is the dance that comes closest to natural walking’, explains the dancer. Making it particularly suitable for elderly people. In people with Alzheimer’s disease, regular dancing enables them to relearn simple but forgotten movements, such as rocking from one foot to the other, turning around and walking backwards. As well as... Read more ..read more
