Is this the drywaller's or the painter's fault?

Had a drywall issue patched and painted. This is the end result. Drywaller was long gone by the time I saw the work, but I asked the painter to paint a second coat because the patch was super obvious still. He claims he painted the whole wall (not just the patch) and that the issue was because the drywaller did a bad job. I personally feel like this was the painter's problem... Either he didn't prime over the new mud or used cheap paint with inadequate coverage (I think they used ProMar 200). What do the pros here think? Could this be resolved with more coats and/or better quality paint ..read more

Confused by different advice received

Hello r/paint community, In the last year I've learned a lot about painting, thanks to this community in particular. That said I've been struggling about something: the amount of paint to put on the roller/on the wall. I posted here many months ago when I was painting my home office and the advice I received was primarily to keep the roller saturated and dip the roller after every full pass of about 1 roller wide. It took me one full gallon to cover my dark blue wall and almost two gallons to do the three other walls in white. I thought it made no sense since you're supposed to be able to pai ..read more

Primer necessary?

Walls are currently a grey, repainting Malabar (beige) by SW and using Duration (thanks to your suggestions!). Our walls are a mess so doing lots of patching nail holes or dents. My dad does tons of painting and just painted his house too, which looks great, and swears we won't need to prime these spots but I'm worried about them flashing through. Pros: do I need to prime or do you think two coats of duration will be ok? Fyi in the photo, these spots haven't been sanded just yet. submitted by /u/Alcestis- [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Automotive gun suggestions

Hi! I'm spraying my car late this year and I'm looking into a new spray gun. I've only ever used a Star S770 pressure feed gun or cheap gravity feed guns to paint before and while the S770 has a good result, it is a communal workshop gun and suffers accordingly. I mainly want to use the gun at home where I have about 200-250LPM free air delivery. Any suggestions that aren't several dollars? Or am I best off just buying my own S770, if my compressor setup can run it? Located in Australia, can also use eBay/Amazon if needed. Thanks in advance.q submitted by /u/lumpyandgrumpy [visit reddit] [co ..read more

Looking to create the spray set up shown in this video. What would be a good thing to hang from the ceiling to swivel the cabinet doors on?

SW Duration vs. Emerald?

Homeowner here. I've got Duration on our house, and I'm going to repaint. Talking to the SW dealer, he recommended Emerald over Duration for ease of use and coverage with one coat, and tried to sell me on the "self-cleaning" version of Emerald. I'm not terribly bothered by the price differences if there's a quality difference or ease of use difference. But is there? submitted by /u/EnterStatusHere [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Prep for Arborcoat Solid Stain on Previously stained wood in good condition

I have a screened in, roof covered deck that was stained/coated about 4 years ago with solid Behr Deckplus stain. At the time, I stripped down the existing paint using a combination of chemical stripping solutions, backbreaking effort with a belt sander for hours on end, and then a deck wash/brightener. As it is roof covered, the stain is still in very good shape. No failing, peeling, flaking, or anything anywhere. However, it's a bit faded in some spots, and some areas we are starting to see may have lost some of their waterproofing qualities -- water used to bead up and now kind of pudles a ..read more

Help! I need to clean corrosion off a large metal water fountain (outdoors). Imagine the kinds you see at nicer retail centers. What would be the best way to remove rust and corrosion? What paints or coatings work best for this to seal it? Anyone with experience? submitted by /u/BrownCars [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
