I went to an auction today and could not resist picking this rifle up. It is a JC Higgins Model 45 in 35 Remington. It is in excellent condition from top to bottom but it was the stock that sold me on it. It has a nice piece of lumber on it. It is an earlier one with Ballard rifling and could not have seen much use. What do you think ..read more

So I needed a new scope for my '69 336 .35 REM. I went with the same parameters of a Leupold scope I have on my default BLR hunting rifle. Been pleased with performance for me, low light conditions, etc. Didn't fully read all the details on this newer version until recently. It has this interesting turret thing. Well, now that I have read up on it, seems pretty cool and meant for people like me who aren't refined long range shooters and could enjoy something that doesn't require hold... Took my new to me 1981 336 .35 to the range with some factory Leverevolutions. F.f.e was 100%, barrel heat was frankly shocking! After 3 rounds she was HOT. Never got my 760 past blood warm. She does copper foul though. Much more than the 760. Fired cases look good. Primers .004 proud. Same as my 760 and fired cases will freely chamber in either rifle! Not having to fiddle with die adjustment is sweeeet... Accuracy. This is with a Weaver K2.5. 50 yards, three, three round groups: 1 &1/16... Range trip and initial impressions ..read more

35 Remington made from 6.5 x 54 Mannlicher brass

Have any of you guys tried making 35 Remington from 6.5x54 Mannlicher? The reason I ask is because the dimensions are close. As we all know the 35 Remington case head is .458 with a .460 rim. I measured a few 35 cases and they were slightly smaller than the specs. The Mannlicher case head at the web is .452 with a .454 rim. Actually my 35 Remington cases I successfully made one case a few days ago. After running the 6.5 over a 7mm expander and a 30 expander, I ran it into a 35... 35 Remington made from 6.5 x 54 Mannlicher brass ..read more

Sitting at Cabelas in Hamburg Pa waiting on my background check. Gettin' me a 1981 336 in .35 Remington, minor finish wear inside the lever, and minor stock finish issues. The bore looks good through the dusty copper fouling. $499. Guess the price is so low cuz the bullseye is missing. At least they didn't skewer it with the rear sling base! Magazine band for the front base. Saw her a couple days ago. HOPED she'd be gone by now, but noooooo... There's a Weaver base on board and I have a NICE... Oh my ..read more

Still getting used to the trigger, now a nice 3 pounds. 3 called shots, grrrr, but 760s CAN be a bit quirky. 2-2 was from easing the slide forward... Don't do that. Group 1 is very nice. 3 is unreal. The load is a 200 grain FTX over 43 grains of LVR, Winchester lrp. Velocity 2311 fps. Happy. Happy. Happy ..read more

at my LGS. Unmolested 1950 waffletop 336A in your favorite caliber. 90-95% I’d be tempted myself, but have sworn to avoid acquiring guns in calibers I don’t currently have. They’re asking $950, which doesn’t seem unreasonable to me nowadays. [ATTACH... A heads up for my 35 REM friends ..read more
