Just an update to my previous research, I have found through working on many 1100s and 1187s that there seems to be a great deal of variation depending on age and even model types which has led me to revise my previous findings. I now use only a 2mm cross section, 24.5 mm internal diameter O ring for reliability across the whole range. On my model seven the bolt moves fairly easy with a go gauge but when I try it with an actual cartridge there is quite a bit of resistance. In the first couple years of the 700 a few guns came with slim 20" barrels. A letter I once received from Remington said that in the first 2 years of 700 production less than 5% in all available calibers were made with this barrel configuration. I have since lost the letter and wonder if anyone here has knowledge of this variant. I remember that these used to sell for double the price of the 22" barrel at gun shows the 80's. I had over time formed the opinion on a few things mainly information from media like Field & Stream Fur Fish and Game and Gun World and other pulp media. I used to think the .22 mag was only capable of ho-hum accuracy. I shot a few different .22 Mags that I did not own, my shooting pals would brag how accurate they were.
