I need help deciding between an Italian greyhound, a whippet and a vizsla. I love affectionate dogs but my main concerns are the prey drive of the whippet and Italian greyhound because I have 2 cats, and also the energy level of a vizsla since I live in an apartment. Dog Breed Questionnaire Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs? first time owning a dog on my own but I grew up with dogs. I’ve had a lab and a St. Bernard. 2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder. either but preferably reputable bree ..read more

I have a 9 month old gsd / husky / pit mix. She’s incredibly smart and catches on quickly. But she has a bad habit of putting her paws on the counter top or table and recently she’s started jumping ON the table if I leave her alone and destroying anything in site. This morning, she tore up 3 fake styrofoam artichokes, gnawed on 2 candles, shredded a paper contract and drank the remaining milk from my cereal bowl. When I catch her in the act, I firmly say OFF (same if she jumps on me or anyone else) and / or NO. She just looks at me bright eyed and happy like the words aren’t registering as a ..read more

Introduction Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs? For my partner, yes. For me, no. However, I was still a small child back then, and apart from the most basic stuff, I don't have a ton of experience. Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder? We're both leaning towards a reputable breeder. Describe your ideal dog. My partner and I want a medium to big sized dog we can take with us on long walks. He (my partner) also likes taking rides on his bike so it would be cool if the dog could accompany him ..read more

The other day a dog ran up to me and bit my pant leg tightly and pulled. A lady came up to me and got the dog away then said "Im so sorry, I told him not to do this, just before we left the house" so now im confused if she really thinks her dog can understand her or what just happened. submitted by /u/Existing-Bake5057 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi Guys, I recently purchased the gut biome lab test for my dog (6 years, Intact, Male, Shiba). The results were eh, he seems to have very high levels of Streptococcus bacteria as well as lacking a lot of good bacteria. What may have caused this? They recommended S. Boulardii probiotic as well as a gut restore supplement derived from fecal material that they sell. I am going to follow their protocol however I am still wondering how we got here in the first place? I mainly feed him kibble, carrots, and eggs for a majority of his meals. Im trying to transition him into a Whole Foods only diet e ..read more

Which pet insurance is best for you? Are there any that may cover your dog's current treatment? Did your dog get injured during the waiting period and want to know if you're covered? Here's the place to ask. Do know we cannot help you here with medical concerns, and lying or not disclosing things to the insurance company is illegal so we don't allow that either. submitted by /u/AutoModerator [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Any dog owners who are also mushroom foragers? how do you keep your pup safe when out there?

We have a 6 month old puppy (border collie, pyrenees, golden retreiver mix). He is so smart and great. Still likes to put stuff in his mouth when hes outside because hes a puppy. I have read some horror stories of dogs eating wild mushrooms and dying or getting really sick. We like to forage for mushrooms and I am worried about bringing my pup along, but I don't want him to miss out on outside adventure times. He is pretty good at the "drop it" command but I worry he might sneak a taste of something when we aren't looking. We are considering getting an anti foraging muzzle but not sure if tha ..read more

Exercise/games for stubborn dog

I have a 2 year old rescue who has been acting like a werewolf on cocaine lately and I could use some advice for burning his energy. He’s an unknown mix, 50ish lbs, looks lab-ish with maybe something herding in him (or husky, which is not something I recognized or expected when I got him). He’s very stubborn with training and doesn’t have much interest in it. I work the basics with him every day, but generally he wants to patrol the yard, sniff, and bark. Currently he gets two walks a day with lots of sniffing and some training thrown in (he’s also leash reactive, also working on it). I’m try ..read more
