Hello! I’m currently a medical student and really love women’s health and OB/Gyn, but the one thing that is holding me back from committing to the specialty currently is the lifestyle post-residency of a generalist. I understand that MIGS, urogyn, REI, and MFM subspecialties have a relatively great lifestyle in attendinghood. However I was curious about what the lifestyle is like during fellowship for these. Are hours reasonable during the fellowships too? I think I can get through a tough 4... Read more ..read more

As an ObGyn PGY2 resident, I am an international medical graduate (IMG) with no need for visa sponsorship. My passion for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is immense, and I am fully committed to pursuing it. I am eager to know what MFM programs prioritize in their applicants and how many programs MFM fellows typically apply to. Could you please provide insights into the key factors MFM programs consider when evaluating applicants? Additionally, I would like to know the average number of... Read more ..read more

How hard is it to be pro-life in Ob/Gyn residency?

I'm not trying to be controversial or stir up the pot here, but this is a topic I've been wondering about a lot lately and would appreciate any advice or first-hand experience anecdotes. I'm a new 3rd year medical student (taking boards in a few weeks, eek!), father of 2, and a devout pro-life Catholic. I'm interesting in Ob/Gyn for a number of reasons, but am a bit scared by the dominant pro-choice mentality of the profession. ACOG has been particularly vociferous about it's... Exposed podcast… would you still apply to Columbia?

Just finished listening to the Exposed podcast about the coverup of sexual abuse by Columbia physician Robert Hadden. It sounds like the coverup goes all the way to the top, involving Mary D’Alton, who remains chair of OB/GYN. Does that make anyone hesitant to apply there? I’m not at that point yet, but idk if I would feel good about going somewhere with a culture that would keep that kind of person in power ..read more

NYT podcast on egg retrievals

From Serial Productions: The Retrievals Dozens of women seeking to become mothers came to a fertility clinic at Yale. A five-part narrative series explores the shocking events that unfolded there. www.nytimes.com I listened to this podcast. Seems like the narrator didn’t get much input from IVF doctors about the process. What you all think about this? Do egg retrievals normally involve sedation. My 2 min YouTube and Google search showed examples of retrievals without sedation….just local. Anyway, horrible how things went down there ..read more
