We have a 35' foot long X 5' foot tall retaining wall that has now is leaning out about an inch on 1 end, and has a slight bow in the middle. The blocks show a some marks of water seepage. Of course our home owners insurance to company told us to go pound sand, and since my wife and I are seniors on a pretty tight/fixed income, calling someone out to put in tie backs and/or remove replace it is way out of the question (got estimates between, $8,000 and $24,000). We had a structural... Help with a 5 foot tall retaining wall ..read more

Just got 6" gutters installed to replace my 35 yr old 4" gutters on my split level in the woods (lots of leaves). I want to install Wye's at the bottom of the downspouts to dump into drainpipes sloping down, but I don't want to buy extra unnecessary parts. Looks like I need a config like below. Is it necessary to get the Wye + the 90° adapter, or is there a single part that's better suited? Existing: Wide - 3x5 downspout Needed: Wye adapter 90... What are my options for drainage

I’m assuming my only option here would be to bore Under the walkway and run some pipe? At first I was thinking I would just need to slope the sub grade down towards the hole in the center and the water in the hole would slowly absorb into the earth, but I don’t think this is correct? Final grade is going to be some river rock ..read more

Been having some issues with my riding mower. Latest diagnosis from repair person was blown head gasket. Tho considering the issues iv had in the past with them, im not exactly trustful of what they say. Sadly, i dont know any other places around here, and have no way to transport the mower, so options are limited. So I at least wanted to see if ppl that know better then me, at least though that might actually be the issue. Riding mower: Husqvarna Model: YTH 2042 Engine Briggs and... Blown head gasket? I need to build a privacy fence to block some wind. There’s a large empty field and the wind is constant. We have a pool and the wind makes it chiller than it is and pool floats don’t work out for the kids. If I make a single line of privacy fencing, blocking the westward gust, do I need to worry about it blowing over? Support it a little with angled beams ..read more

People, Have a MTD rider mower, from 1998. New battery showing 12.7V as well as a new solenoid. I checked voltage at near end (hot) terminal and get 12.7V. Then I turn the key (safety switch engaged, etc) and get only 7.6V at the far side of the solenoid. The V at the starter is the same with kery ON- 7.6V. Should the starter be receiving 12+V? Then why with a new solenoid I only get 7+V on the starter side (far end)? BUT, when I unscrew the hot wire feeding V to the starter is gets 12+V... Rider mower no start ..read more

Landscaping Ideas- Reduce Grass

Anyone know how to design a yard? I like the idea of mulched flower beds taking up like half the area so there's less grass to deal with... and I can put pretty things in. Would it be a nightmare keeping the mulched areas free of unwanted growth? Maybe a bed of Asiatic Jasmine or another ground cover? The weeds I'll be fighting are dollar weeds, dandelions, yellow and white tiny flower weeds, various sticker weeds, and more I'm sure. A short picket fence is in the plan for this yard too... Further to my DIY irrigation thread I now know the yard layout and where the plants are going. I don't have all the plant names but am getting perennials plus shrubs and native to Manitoba Prairie grass. All plants are suitable for my area. There are at least 8-10 different plants and I get the final details in a few days once they get my deposit for the project. My yard designer has a Masters in landscaping architecture and showed me the yard plan and names of all the plants with her job... Compost for fertilizing plants ..read more
