Just curious I have purchased most of my cordless machines on line so had no reminders to have it serviced and it all runs fine .
One machine I purchased from a supplier dealer with a showroom and it's perfect for light trimming no problems at all a Stihl hedge trimmer AK model .
I received a reminder to have it serviced but cannot think of any parts which require servicing as it performs as good as new and done many hours of work .
The blade is still sharp with no sap or resin build up Am I missing something , Are there components which need replacing , adjusting or cleaning . ?

Hi all
New to the forum, but looking for some advice.
My mothers garden sits much lower than the garden to the left and directly behind, so all all the water flows into her garden making it very wet and the grassy area unusable.
I am looking for advice on adding some drainage/soakaway so she can have some Astro turf that won't become waterlogged.
any help/ideas would be appreciated.
cheers ..read more

Morning all.
To start, i am a DIYer and by no means an expert gardener.
I have cleared my garden following the completion of my house extension - stripped up the old patchy lawn, rotovated sub soil and imported 10 tonne of topsoil which i spread over the bank holiday weekend (depths vary from 25 - 100mm across approx 110m2).
I started to do bit of a compacting with the heels of my boots but had to abandon due to the rain - it hasn't really stopped raining since! The newly laid top soil is now water logged and there are puddles everywhere (mainly in those areas i've compacted and n ..read more

Hi all,
I have been asked to give a quote for a property, the owner has said apart from the basics like mowing/weeding there will be various other jobs and is looking for 1 day per week. Now after reading plenty of posts on here about avoiding an hourly/day rate how would I go about giving him a price? Some of the examples he's given me are; planting 150m of hedge, planting wild flowers around a pond, possibly finishing the pond (its just a big hole at the minute). The main point is the work will be continuous and never the same each time. Do I just go with an hourly rate (possibly £35/hr) or ..read more

I have a cherry blossom tree to prune in late summer but the length of each leading branch needs reducing by over 50 % ideally by more to ensure it does not encroach customers neighbours property wall and increase light .
Also lots of criss crossing and rubbing branches to remove
Is this too much pruning to do in one go for a cherry blossom tree which is 20 feet in height or should the pruning be staggered to give it a chance to recover .
Thanks

Hi all,
Just looking for some advice and guidance really.
I run my own living wall install and maintenance company, however I have been approached by a school to quote for the grounds maintenance.
We can do the project, but I am unsure how to price and at what prices to charge as the living wall market is so much different.
Would be great if anyone could help out with pricing.
They require the following:

How long after applying horticultural Gypsum to a clay heavy lawn so I see noticeable improvement in the amount of water retention and water logging? My plan is one application of Gypsum per season followed by a monthly dose of humic acid and seaweed extract. The idea being to break up the clay soil and allow beneficial bacteria to grow in the soil which in turn will attract earth worms etc and also feed and strengthen the grass roots. Further helping to break up the clay soil.  ..read more
