If necessary I can bring a sleeping bag/mat. I'll make sure you have at least a proper mattress. I'll most likely take a bus or plane from northern Germany to Riga and then figure out how to get there. Maybe camping along the way, but prefer to pack light and stay in rooms. Just making sure you haven't missed the ferry recommendation. Especially from northern Germany, the Travemünde-Liepāja ferry is highly recommended. So much more relaxed than bus or plane. Surprisingly affordabe, especially on foot. Decent bus link from Liepāja too. Do plan a stop when passing through Kuldīga. The old ci ..read more

I have some woodworking experience, mainly working with hand-tools. We have plenty of indoor space, but not a lot of furniture yet. If necessary I can bring a sleeping bag/mat. I'll most likely take a bus or plane from northern Germany to Riga and then figure out how to get there. Maybe camping along the way, but prefer to pack light and stay in rooms. I remember 3 years ago in Lithuania that people where renting out rooms very affordable. Is that similar in Latvia? Statistics: Posted by bos — Fri Apr 26, 2024 6:10 am ..read more

I have some woodwork experience too. What funiture do you want to create? One or more extra beds for you people to sleep on wouldn't be bad Only half kidding. We have plenty of indoor space, but not a lot of furniture yet. The second hand stuff here is overpriced. The new stuff is either bad quality or ikea. I'd much rather build stuff myself. I'll see how far I get before helping hands arrive and make sure you have a comfortable night's sleep . Statistics: Posted by loutfard — Thu Apr 25, 2024 8:55 pm ..read more

I just discovered that Steven Rinella (of Meateater) wrote a two volume series directly in line with the theme of this thread. I have not read them, but his guides are usually known for being high quality. Both volumes have perhaps the highest ratings I've ever seen on Amazon for a book. 4.9 stars from ~6k ratings and 4.9 stars from 3.6k ratings respectively. My library has both volumes and I will be placing a hold on them. I will report back with a review once I'm done. The first quarter zipped by… For the first time in ten years I sold some stocks and had a negative saving rate - what happened? Portfolio in Q1, 2024 I sold €9,114 worth of stocks, as I invested a total of €40,428 in two company participations. Most of the funds came from my cash buffer. I consider this money gone and I will value my ownership in both companies at €0. Having said that, one of the companies is already making profit and I bought a big chunk of it, so there is a great chance for upside potential. I do not plan to do further angel investments. It is too stressful, complicated ..read more

Inverting the last paragraph, for people with an inclination for such hippie housing, might be a good idea to put themselves on the receiving end and purchasing such above for next to nothing from a disgruntled soon to be ex owner, though do check for upkeep costs. In terms or ‘renting’, this is one way of looking at woofing, workaway, helpexchange. I have done quite a bit of these and romantic as they sound, looking back at the experiences, it is not inconceivable that some of the hosts locked themselves in such a money/time sink situations and actually needed a helper more than vice-versa ..read more

Wherever you go, there you are. If you approach everything with a job-like efficiency, you will likely do the same with travel turning it into logistics-management. Logistics with a large time buffer can be much less stressful. Try leaving a very large time buffer between places and activities. Opt for seeing some places in much more depth even if that is just the city block where you are staying. Are you actually slow traveling @WRC? Do you and DW have moments of boredom? This would be a good indicator that you are traveling slow enough. Statistics: Posted by mountainFrugal — Thu Apr 25, 2 ..read more

Thank you @loutfard and @WRC. We are so stoked to open the doors next weekend. From a WOG perspective, my fitness cluster took a huge hit the past few months. I am looking forward to long exercise sessions and more time with DW on the weekends. Statistics: Posted by mountainFrugal — Thu Apr 25, 2024 3:08 pm ..read more
