Stolen License Plate

Today I came out of a store and put my items in the trunk. I noticed my license plate is gone along with the frame. What a hassle to deal with this in Nevada. The DMV doesn’t give good information on their site. A friend tells me I have to make an online police report. I try to do that and their site says I have to call. It turns out I have to turn the other plate into them and then take a form they give me to the DMV. I can’t get an appointment with the DMV for 2 weeks. The police said the information gets put into an online database and then a person is pulled over at gunpoint because it’s ..read more

Gift Idea For Relative With Cancer

My niece got married last month to a great young guy. This week he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Obviously, we are all devastated. Yesterday he had a G tube (gastrostomy tube for feeds) placed and will be starting chemo soon. I am trying to think of something to send them. Food is definitely out. I searched for other threads but couldn't find anything appropriate although I thought I remember some threads that included ideas for people on chemo. Any suggestions ..read more

Colorado Hwy 50 CLOSED west of Gunnison

Just an FYI but yesterday the Hwy 50 bridge over Blue Mesa Reservoir west of Gunnison Colorado was closed indefinitely due to damage found during an inspection. So far there is no date for repairs to be completed. The ONLY east/west routes as of now are I-70 and Hwy 160 until snow is cleared off mountain passes. But those will probably be restricted to cars and trucks and most likely just locals. So if you're planning a Colorado trip keep close watch on this. Sorry that's all the info out there but hopefully more upcoming as CODOT gets a plan for repairs ..read more

Went to Walmart today to exchange two empty Sodastream cartridges for two full ones. Customer service said limit is one per day.. No sale or coupons involved. I asked why. No answer.. So I asked what time tomorrow. I do not want to waste a trip into town. She had to ask the person above her.. Anytime tomorrow but still no reason for the one per day.. I am going to do the customer satisfaction survey on the receipt. Perhaps they will give me an answer ..read more

Anyone else NOT watch the news?

I promise to not get political, and will be intentionally non-specific. I used to be somewhat of a news hound, being knowledgeable of most current affairs. Maybe it's my age, but for quite a while I would get internally worked up if I watch or read the news, in depth. So, for all intents and purposes I stopped doing so. I do get a daily email feed with basically just headlines, and if I really want to get more info I can then do more research; I rarely do so, however. And as a lifelong insomniac, I never check the news in the evening. I sure don't need another thing that might keep me awake. M ..read more

Hi friends, Kiwi guy, 52, living overseas most of my life and my current job being dissolved in 4 months. I can stay on for less money and more work but after covid years have had enough and want to be free to pursue new directions in life. I'm scared for sure, I have just over $ US 1 million and probably could use a few more years as a buffer, as I don't qualify for a government pension, social security, or super fund anywhere. But, I figure I can test drive FIRE and in the next 5 years if budget doesn't work or worried about income/ability to live okay in my dotage I can return to my countr ..read more

Using up the PT benefit

Not sure how best to ask. How do I find out "how much" Medicare will pay in a year for PT ? Does it go by "occurence"? As in - if you supposedly use up the benefit for the year, but you somehow suffer a new injury on the same body part, or you injure a different part of your body, is there a different benefit "bucket" that will cover PT for that new injury? Not the same, but I remember when helping my mom years ago, there was one year that she needed to stay out of the hospital for 90 days so her Medicare benefit would "reset" and would then be available to cover another hospitalization in t ..read more

My wife and I are looking for a new smartphone carrier. A neighbor has suggested US Mobile, which, among other things, would cost us only $20 per month, per phone. Is anyone familiar with this company? Here's a recent review: https://www.whistleout.com/CellPhone...-mobile-review Thanks, Roy ..read more

How dangerous are our streets
Early Retirement & Financial Independence Community

From time to time, there is a forum conversation about safety of neighborhoods and streets. For the most part, my takeaway has been most people do not feel where they live is unsafe. But, when they consider advice to others, it feels that the area outside of home is unsafe. I came across this USA by State study which discusses attitudes from people in each state about their feeling of personal safety (it seems similar to many of the concerns expressed by forum members.) And, then the study compares the actual reporting by local police departments of various crime categories that had been subm ..read more
