Good morning. I hope someone can help as I am in dire straits. I have 2 4-year old goldfish in a 55G tank, a fancy and a comet. The comet has always been the more active and speedy one. However I noticed the other morning he stopped taking food. He is also acting very slow and lethargic. Not sitting on the bottom or gasping at the top but just slowly drifting around the tank. Their normal diet consists of goldfish crisps daily, a... Goldfish lethargic and not eating ..read more

Hi [emoji112] I have not had goldfish in quite a while, and want to start again when I move into my new apartment. I will not be able to have a large tank there for a myriad of reasons, so I am coming here to ask about a tank that likely won’t be upgraded. Goal: I would like to keep either two or three fancies, either ranchu or yuan bao/shortfin oranda, or a mix of the two types. I want to keep them bare bottom, with some large cobbles and flowerpots for decor, and a carpet of green algae.... 33 long vs 40 breeder and setup advice ..read more

Hi everyone, I have a female Oranda with a huge wen. It’s not in her eyes but it causes her to swim facing downward a lot and honestly just looks like it makes her tired. She eats fine, poops, is active, no signs of illness. I would like to give the wen a big trim, but I’ve only ever done small trims before. How much is too much? Thanks for any pointers! Here she is, Cheesecake! Sent from my... How much wen can you trim off ..read more

Hi, i never used salt for my goldfish before, but searching online i have seen a lot of publicatiosn saying that there are more pros than cons of adding salt. Do you guys add aquarium salt? according to some publications you should add between 1 and 5 grams of salt for each litter, but i have 500 liters, so 500 grams to 2.5 kilograms sounds like a lot to me ..read more

Hello everybody. I am an experienced aquarist (~20 years) but this is my second serious attempt at goldfish keeping, so I am still new-ish to goldfish. Around 3 months ago my LFS had a large shipment of stunning Oranda, so I bought myself a bunch. The store owner did a general quarantine treatment with anti parasite and antihelminthic meds, but a couple weeks after I got the fish home, they also ended up with a particularly terrible case of ick. I treated all the fish and all have... Goldfish color change, will it change again ..read more

Hello everybody. I am an experienced aquarist (~20 years) but this is only my second attempt at goldfish keeping, so I am still new-ish to goldfish. The first time 7-8 years ago ended poorly with constantly sick and dying fish so I gave up. Around 3 months ago my LFS had a large shipment of stunning Oranda, so I bought myself a bunch. My Black Moor and Orange Oranda are about to get moved into a nice bigger tank, This morning I noticed what looked like some tiny traces of ICK on my oranda and my black moor looks like he has some whitish stuff on his shoulders (or back) We did a good water change this morning after seeing this and after both fish seem to be more active an within 4 hours or so the black moor's whitish stuff looked like it''s going away. Anyone seen this before? https://imgur.com/a/Xbo9eM4 ..read more
