Zaffer's Death - 1 year later

It's been exactly one year since Zaffer took his last breath (February 20, 2023). He was an immensely important part of my life - I loved him dearly! Some say coping with such a great loss should become easier with time. So far, however, my incredible pain from losing Zaf has been persistent and torturous beyond measure. I relive our bond and his loving companionship in my mind daily. It often seems like my sweet blue boy was here with me just yesterday. But there's an ever-present element that simultaneously makes it feel like he's been gone for an eternity. I'm unsure how it can feel both wa ..read more

Hello all. This is my first post. I used to be in many Facebook groups but stopped using Facebook when the pandemic made it a more toxic place to be. I had the same name as here. Some of you may remember me but it has been a few years. At the end of the month I am going to Singapore for a short visit and to tick off my bucket list the very important item of seeing some Sphinx Macaws. If anybody has any tips about things I can do that are parrot related in Singapore I would be very grateful :macawbvz ..read more

Long-Lost Macaws

Hello! My name is Ranko Petrovic and I am looking for my two long-lost macaws (blue and gold macaw and a ruby macaw). I am an avid bird and parrot aficionado. I am reaching out because I would like to find my birds. I realize that this is a tall order, but I cannot live with myself without trying. In 1991, I bought a small three-week old blue and gold macaw from a local breeder in Chicago (her name was Atha). She sold me a bird early (a bird that was still feeding) in order for me to complete the process so it could bond with me. The baby was a godsend and we bonded instantly. We looked forwar ..read more

Zaffer on my mind

This day marks the one-year point since Zaffer underwent his biopsy procedures (i.e., core sample removal from his oral tumor and invasive surgery of his right leg as an effort to try and learn why he had been experiencing crippling inflammation thereof). On this very day, exactly one year ago, Zaffer would begin his rapid and torturous decline to his final moments. Prior to the aforementioned procedures on December 29, 2022, Zaf had continued to demonstrate playfulness and other expressions of enjoyment during his daily activities. He truly had a great attitude considering all he was going t ..read more

Hello I was asked to post a little info as i am new member. My service comforter is Moses a 4 year old Solomon Island Eclectus. I am a DAV from the Vietnam War. I just lost my service dog of 13 years to cancer and her buddy is Moses. Moses and my service dog have been very close since we brought Moses home as a baby 4 years ago. 2 years ago Moses flew the coop (our home) i did not have his wings clipped and he ran away from home through an open door i did not close fast enough:( I think he just turned into a young Green Man looking for a red Ecky or at least a red chicken. He was gone over nig ..read more

Hello, 2 months ago my Moses (Solomon Island Eclectus) lost his best friend to cancer:( Moses has been with my Duchess (retired k-9 german shepherd) since Moses was a baby. He has not been the same since October 13th,2023. I am hoping I can receive advice or suggestions as to how I can help Moses Grieve and Recover. I heard stories that sometimes birds can mourn for years after the loss of a loved one (human or other). He does not talk as much as he used to talk. He seems to wish to be alone rather than he usually likes to sit with my wife and I and watch TV. Years ago Moses would not go in ..read more

Still thinking of Zaffer

As of yesterday (11/30/23), it has been one full year since Zaffer had his CT scan. That day was extremely stressful for him (and me), as were each of his multitude of other diagnostic procedures through the months. I try to think of our happy times. But my memories of Zaf's pain, fear, and suffering tend to ruin the chance for any sense of contentment from those pleasant recollections of our loving moments. My days are filled with agony and sorrow remembering my sweet blue companion and the horrors he encountered. I keep it all mostly to myself... but sometimes the need to express my plight o ..read more

This post is for anyone who wants to understand the genetics of grass parrots and also contribute their experience. I walk you through the basics in a very easy to understand manner. We can also go deeper for those of us who want all of the genetic science. I have beautifully added photographs. These are so helpful as books written by other "bird specialists" are just inaccurate in their naming of color mutations.Anyone breeding these beautiful birds should express their difficulties and successes. We can discuss more than 50 species of parrot with numerous examples of breeding outcomes and ..read more
