My dorcus stag beetle larvae is making circles in its substrate. I know that it's trying to find a place to pupate, but I don't know what to give it to make a pupa chamber. According to my understanding that if they are in rotten wood, thats where they make their pupal cell. I had this problem before with another beetle species and they exhausted themselves to death or a very small version of what they could have been. What should I do? What substrate should i use ..read more

We are struggling now for over 9 months with a type of mite or parasite we feel crawling on us and they are biting us for our blood. We tried everything and although we live in the Caribbean where we should be used to many insects we have hired five different exterminators, a dermatologist and an "insect expert" but none of them were able to identify the species. Below are three pictures of the different life stages from the nymph to adult. they are all the same species. Please let us know... What mysterious insect is crawling on us and biting us ..read more

So I have been keeping Blatta orientalis (Oriental cockroaches) for a couple weeks now and at first they seemed fine, I've fed them (gave bread, cheese puffs and poptarts) and gave them water each day yet I've noticed that they have been acting a bit sluggish lately, the temperatures reach mid 40s, could that be? Am I feeding the wrong foods? Not enough? I have 163 of them and they are in this enclosure (pictures attached) [ATTACH type="full"... First post so please do let me know if I’m asking in completely the wrong place & apologies if it’s a silly question! Very new to keeping bugs! I’ve had these stunning/terrifying horrid king assassin bugs for around 4-5 months, I love it, just stare at them for hours! I’ve only ever seen successful moults, at various stages. However today, it seemed maybe an antenna was pulled out during moult. It left a little ball of gunk just above its eyes, I tried to take a small piece of absorbent... I finally got crickets 3 days ago, 500 medium from CricketKing. They came fine but now 47 have died. The indoor temperature is about 23° as of now. They have heaps of food and places to hide. Is there something I'm missing? The ventilation looks fine, 20 holes at each corner near the top, 14 near the bottom and 8 on the lid ..read more

Maggots in dubia tub

Hello all! I recently started breeding dubias in a tub. Yesterday, I noticed some maggots in the wet food bowl (I spot clean the tub once a week, wet food is bug burger in a bowl), I quickly replaced it and the dry food (plain oats) and noticed more maggots today. I just cleaned the whole tub with soap, and only put the dry food in for now. I also noticed a slight smell, but wrote it off as a general roach tub smell. Any advice with how to move forward with this ..read more

Hi, I'm new to owning hissing cockroaches (though I've worked with and handled them before). I have 11 adult males of various species, all from Invertebrate Dude, that I got about a month ago. They currently don't have mites and didn't come with any. I have them in a tank with coco fiber, cork bark, a couple fake reptile-safe plants, fish tank decor pieces, and a PLA 3D printed structure. I've only fed them fish flakes, oranges from my backyard (no pesticides as far as I know), and beetle... Strange white oval/egg in hissing cockroach poop ..read more
