ACF shedding excessively

Hello all, I have a group of African clawed frogs living in a 40 gallon tank. They have lived there for many years with no problems. Recently my oldest (roughly 12-13 yrs old) has begun to shed constantly, and it’s coming off in shreds instead of the normal clean shed. She’s also spending more time at the surface than usual. I read that this could be due to irritants in the water but all the parameters are normal when I check. I’ve been doing every-other-day water changes even so. All the other frogs are healthy and seem unaffected. I’m looking for advice as to what this could be and what I ca ..read more

Hello there, I have 6 year old Ornate pacman. His colors have been very vibrant all his life. Lately I noticed his color is not as bright and some of the black pigment in his dark spots are fading, where I can see the green underneath. The top of his head near the false eye spots has gotten much darker. Is this normal or something I should be concerned about? He seems healthy otherwise. I have attached a picture ..read more

Western toad with blood leaking from top of heat

MrToad had hypocalcemia as a newly morphed critter and has been treated with calcium and vit D three times per week for eight years. He has required hand feeding and loves daily baths in mineral water. He has always been slow and gimpy. Two days ago, he began leaking a small amount of blood from a tiny hole in the top of his head. Vet I consulted had no idea what is going on. He is still alert and moving around but I am very worried about him. There is nothing he can cut himself on in his tank. I do not let crickets run loose in his tank. Anyone ever encountered such a thing in a toad or frog ..read more

Just acquired two baby Pac-Man frogs. Am wondering, since they are the same size, if it will be safe for me to temporarily house them together until I det up a second tank. (Was only planning to get one). They have a water dish, cocoearth, and one and two week crickets. Also have hiding places. I know a larger one will eat a smaller one ..read more

Lost baby fire belly toads

Purchased four eight week old fire bellies two weeks ago. Suddenly one died (was on his back). Not sure what I did wrong. They are in a 10 gallon semi aquatic tank, with lots of places to climb out and with a filter and overhead light. They have been very active, happily eating hydei fruit flies and pinheads, dusted with calcium powder every other day and vitamin powder once per week. Am using bottled mineral water, changed weekly and with any leftover feeders removed daily. House temperature is 72. What am I doing wrong? Am so sad and devastated ..read more

Thrive Tropical Reptile Vertical Crescent Terrarium

I could use a terrarium I could move by myself. I'm considering this one, but I know from a video that when the doors open, there's a crack near the hinges that frogs can get out and also they might be able to get behind the backing, which is non removable (not without destroying it anyway). Have any of you used this terrarium? Did you have these problems or find a way to get around them ..read more
