Overcoming Habits of Sin
Bethel Mennonite Church

Scripture commands believers to turn from sin to righteousness many times. Examples of this are found in Romans 6, Eph. 4:17-32, and Phil. 2:12-13. Romans teaches us that in principle, in God’s reality, a person’s habits of sin die when they are co-crucified with Christ. If a person wants to stop sinning, it is helpful to know and believe that the person you were “in Adam” has died, so you are no longer a slave to sin. Ephesian 4:23-24 says to “be renewed in the spirit of the mind,” which sounds like the direction or set of the mind needs to change in order to stop sinning. We cannot stop our ..read more

With Confidence I Now Draw Nigh

God wants us to know Him as He truly is, and Jesus is the accurate revelation of God. Believers are the last revelation of God. If you would experience a great disappointment, would it be distressing to you to know that God knows? I ask this question because there is a strong emphasis among us: you have to strive perfectly to enter in; you have to obey perfectly to enter in. But there is also the truth that God is a merciful God. How does a person’s pursuit of God and God’s mercy intersect? The question is this: Do we do the sanctifying or does God do it? The answer is that Christ is the answe ..read more

An Unhindered Fellowship of Prayer

To be like Christ is the highest attainment of every Christian. To have His image formed in our lives is Christ’s will and requires yielding to Christ. I John 3:22-24 Answered prayer is the result of doing what pleases Christ and loving one another. You don’t know a person until you have prayed with them. Prayerlessness and faithlessness go together. Where is God when you pray? Many people believe that they are praying in order to overcome God’s reluctance to do something. God is right here, not far off in heaven. If we belong to God, what we want done He wants done too. Prayer begins in the h ..read more

But There is Forgiveness With Thee

The theme for Wednesday’s evening sermon was Forgiveness, with Psalm 130:4 being the text. “But there is forgiveness with Thee”. Dale told us that God can heal the hurts and make wrong things right! We believe in forgiveness, but we can believe it better! Forgiveness is a miracle! We need the forgiveness of others…husbands from wives, wives from husbands, children from parents, parents from children, and brothers from each other. What is forgiveness? Forgiveness is remission, and remit means to send away. God remits our sins, “as far as the east is from the west”! Forgiveness is costly…and ris ..read more

The Humility of God

The greatest evidence that God is holy is His humility. Humility is not self-abasement, or being bashful or the absence of excellence. It does not happen with will power but by surrender. Humility defines the spirit of the Holy One. God comes in humility: in the garden when he pursued Adam and Eve, in Jesus as a baby, and every time he uses humans to do Kingdom work. God is a humble God. The post The Humility of God appeared first on Bethel Mennonite Church - Gladys VA ..read more
