Why does the "binge watch" or "weekly episodes" sometimes works and sometimes doesn't?

Fallout just got renewed for a Season 2 just days after being released. They used the binge watch formula and it was successful. So how come sometimes that works for certain shows while sometimes having the shows air new episodes weekly works just as good? Like Disney using batches of episodes from shows that already premiered on Disney Channel to determine whether or not they get a new season. That didn't work for The Ghost and Molly McGee yet it worked for Kiff? Could it be the... Read more ..read more

The Mixed Reception To Movies Based On DreamWorks TV Shows
Anime Superhero » General Animation Discussion

When it comes to movies based on DreamWorks TV shows, the reception tends to be rather mixed. The most common complaint usually involves not really being faithful to the source material, whether it's because of who made the movie or just making decisions that are seen as baffling. Three of these four movies follow this while the fourth has other issues. Let's go over them. 1. Penguins Of Madagascar First up, we have Penguins Of Madagascar, which is loosely based on the Nickelodeon show... Read more ..read more

Cat City Talkback

So as I mentioned on my profile yesterday, Cat City was recently released on both Blu-ray and Prime, after being rather hard to come by for decades. Since the Prime version was only $5, I impulse bought it, since I've been curious about it ever since I learned about it. Trailer: Interesting movie. Far from perfect though. It kind of drags in places, and the main hero character is very nondescript. Even the villain felt a bit flat and didn't have many large ham... Read more ..read more

From the front page of AnimeSuperhero.com: "Comedy Central Adapting Animated Series From Golden Axe Arcade Game" "We’ve heard that, in the wake of the latest bubble-burst, studios are keeping things lean and asking for more pitches based on pre-existing IPs to lower risk. The practice is hardly new, but it gets confusing when the IP they pick is something so obscure that the mainstream audience... Read more ..read more

before i begin, note that this is not a commentary on the quality of the show itself. i love the series and i’ve loved it from the moment it’s pilot released. however i’m seeing some misinformation online about it and how it “saved animation” and it’s “saving warner and adult swim” in my personal opinion, i do not think this show would’ve done nearly as well if it weren’t for the two creators online background. i myself am a fan of both micheal cuzak and zach hadels work and have been... The Bears' Famous Invasion of Sicily - Italian/French animated film

This film is so good. It's from 2019, but I had never heard of it before. The animation and music are beautiful, the plot is simple but original (a bit Ghibli-like). I think the bears are animated in 2D CGI and the humans and backgrounds in traditional 2D animation. Troubadour Gedeone and his young apprentice Almerina are two traveling entertainers who move from a town to another as storytellers to gain money. Surprised by a night blizzard in their last journey... Click to expand... Read more ..read more

Would you like to see more anti-heroes in cartoons?

And I don't mean in adult cartoons, they have plenty of them already, I mean in cartoons aimed at more general audiences. In recent history, protagonists in animated series have been kind-hearted and compassionate individuals. Some even have a strict, self-imposed rule against killing. (Steven Universe, for example) While I do adore these characters, part of me also wants to see more flawed and morally ambiguous protagonists in TV animation. My ideal cartoon anti-hero would have a cynical... Read more ..read more

What would you consider the last "old-school" cartoon?

I know, I know. This is quite subjective (and a bit objective to an extent). I understand that cartoons that are 20-30 years old will have at least a few differences from today's cartoons. Here's where the subjective part comes in. Your definition of "old-school" will likely be different than mine, or someone else's. You might say that cartoons made before the 90s animation renaissance are the last old school cartoons, and someone else might say otherwise and that it goes even further back...
