New day, new rant of Nature shows
Tortoise Forum

OK, we've recently reviewed the "assembling stock footage" and telling a false story around it rant of nature shows. Todays gripe is less angry.... a question in fact. I notice that on Roku nature shows, there are roughly 14,000 shows labeled "Season 1, Episode 1' WHY? I assume they are all vying for sponsorship and most don't get enough funds to carry the show beyond a few episodes? I know that we have some folks very involved with the TV industry(God bless you) so maybe they can... Read more ..read more

Hello all, I have 2 Russians that live in a tortoise table outside (Southern California). I have had them about 4 years but my female I rescued so I am not sure how old she is. She is MUCH larger then the male and I was told by the vet my male would not be interested in mating for quite some time. Thus I kept them together. Well they have been going at it all spring. however, I never worried because it seemed like he was never in the correct position and he's just so much smaller. Low... Read more ..read more

Hello, I got a baby on Saturday afternoon. He died probably some time this morning. He was alive and active last night - he walked around He seemed fine but did not eat for the entirety of the 4 days I had him. He had energy though. I tried to feed him cucumber, dandelion and green salad mix (he didn't eat) I had two lamps one was attached to a temp gauge under the soil that would make it turn off at 83f The general ambient temperature was 80-85f The humidity I found was between 40-60% I... New to the forum — Looking into getting a tortoise!

Hi! I’m Katie (she/her) I live in West Lafayette, IN. I just moved to the area and work at a small animal clinic, but they only see cats and dogs (bummer!!) I love animals so much, but I‘m not ready for the high-energy needs of a dog and I’m allergic to cats. I’m actually allergic to a lot of fluffy creatures—that’s why I’m here! I adopted two geriatric guinea pigs when I was in high school and fell so in love with those little creatures! I loved caring for them at the end of their lives... Read more ..read more

Up tonight thinking about my late Wawa. She was such a beautiful tortoise and I miss her dearly… my male tortoise Titan is doing great, and I think it’s time for me to get him a companion. This is a bittersweet thought as I do truly miss my girl Wawa, and tbh it’s hard for me to imagine adding a new tortoise friend into the mix. What do you guys think? Is a good idea to get my male tortoise a female companion ..read more

Creative Heating Alternatives
Tortoise Forum

I've looked over many (all?) of the heating solutions being sold for reptile/tortoise enclosures and it sort of seems like the best tools available are Ceramic Heat Bulbs, Deep Heat Projector Bulbs, or Radiant Heat Panels - these options feel a bit underwhelming and definitely not scalable so I started looking at alternatives in their base forms, and I'm curious to see if anyone else has ever gotten creative with their heating (or maybe I'm just overthinking this lol). Here are some ideas... Read more ..read more

Overweight Leopard

Hi all, I recently acquired two 3 year old Leopard tortoises. Its original owner is getting out of the hobby so was looking to rehome them. I was told they were previously living in an enclosed vivarium and raised on a varied diet (even though the one in questions's shell tells a different story). This tortoise is 3 years old and I am curious about the following after scrolling through post after post. 1 - I have seen posts that tortoise all grow at different rates. It seems very small...
