I live in Central Florida. After doing some research, I noticed that one of the most commons mistakes is not having enough humidity (80%) in the enclosure for Red-Footed tortoise and other species. Our AC is running around 72-69 F from 6pm-7pm to 6am-7am. After that the house is kept at 76 F. Is it suitable to keep a red footed or even other specie in an indoor space? Will this habitat work? If not, could you please point me in the right direction? What other things should I be... Read more ..read more

Hello, I am new here. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a Hermann tortoise, who is about 5 years old I think. I’ve had her for about 3 years now. I was told I have a female, but yesterday, I was surprised to see her mounting my other female tortoise. Would anyone be able to tell me if she is actually a he? Also I noticed she had some red - maybe blood on her tail. I hadn’t noticed it before this ..read more

Bruce/Arachnophiliacs runs the vancouver reptile expo where I got my tortoise. He was likely sick or unwell. It died in 4 days and I was not given partial or full refund. Unfortunately I did some more digging today and found this forum He mostly deals with tarantulas so that community is more familiar with him. He has been banned from expos and started running his own (the one I went to) He had his animals confiscated at one point and some where found sick or dying. Cbc article ..read more

So I came to this forum because I became the dad of some baby Sulcatas and was looking for the best way to care for them (BTW they appear to be thriving so far). Well this morning this little dude (or dudette?) literally walked into my life, almost ran them over with my car! I brought it home and I’m in the process of finding the best way to care for them. I’m in Ohio so I believe this is a Midland Painted Turtle, haven’t dealt with an aquatic turtle since I was gifted with a dime store red... Read more ..read more

My adult desert tortoise has a clear runny nose. Yesterday I heard what I thought was a little grumbly breathing and saw one bubble come out of his nose. But today it’s just a runny nose. I live in Long Beach California so the weather is pretty nice right now 73 today and lowest at night is 54. He sleeps in a large dog house with Timmothy hay in it. I plan to call Dr. Greek ( our local vet who sees tortoises) this week and make an appointment. But in the mean time is there anything I should... Read more ..read more

Hey folks! Back visiting squirt haha, she’s doing so well bless her? I’m working on getting some live plants in her enclosure this week? I was wondering if any of you guys can help me ID these plants they have in their garden? I’ve never thought to forage any of them apart from the dandelion’s I see, but I’m pretty sure some of these are safe for feedings? I wanted to get it confirmed by some of you lot before I pick any, I’m more confident on some than others but still wanted to double... Read more ..read more
