Don Pedro is a popular South African cocktail that dates to the 1970s. It is apparently named after Dom Pedro I, the first emperor of Brazil, who was also known as Don Pedro IV, the king of Portugal. Although the name’s origin is unclear, some claim that a restaurant in Johannesburg with a Dom Pedro portrait on the wall served as inspiration. Others say it was a tribute to the Portuguese influence in South Africa.
Don Pedro is made with ice cream, cream (sometimes), and a liqueur or spirit of your choice. It is often served as a dessert drink after a meal or as a refreshing treat ..read more

#CathedralCellarCrescendo
Cathedral Cellar, the cherished KWV wine brand with stories, cuisine, and celebration at its core, invites you to join them in song and raise a toast to a beautiful year and the new melodies unfolding in their vineyards.
This melody is inspired by Cathedral Cellar’s unwavering belief that wine is a pure reflection of nature. Chief Winemaker, Justin Corrans, describes his role as that of a conductor between vine and barrel, saying, “If the vine provides the sheet music, then wine becomes its song. As the vines crescendo towards a new vintage, we begin to ..read more

I’ve always been a fan of The Cape Town Gin Company’s gins, especially the beautifully fragrant Cape Town Pink Lady. Their gins are packed with truly South African flavours and botanicals. Also, each of the four gins supports a different NGO, so these guys are not afraid to give back to the South African community as well. Their Black Rhino Gin was launched last year and a portion of the proceeds from every bottle sold goes to The Boucher Legacy. This NGO’s mission is to conserve SA’s wildlife, specifically the rhino, pangolin and African Wild Dog. (Get the full story ..read more

The award-winning Single Malt Scotch rebels against conventional whisky norms in how it shows up and this intimate evening was no different.
After the night’s feast, we caught up with Bacardi Ambassador, Nkuli – who took a few moments to introduce us to Craigel ..read more

It is great when we reach a stage where we are actually craving healthy food! I got home last night, and my menu for the day went out the door, because I really wanted LENTILS. I often get cravings like that, especially for lentils.
The first time I had lentils was years ago, like really – YEARS ago, while I was still in school. And without giving my age away, I am referring to the… uhm… 80’s. We lived in Namibia (then called South West Africa), and there weren’t the luxuries of after school care, so as kids we went to the nearby German hostel to have an afternoon meal, a short n ..read more

As a true crime junkie (yes, I am a murderino, amongst other podcast obsessives) I knew about the “Moor Murders” before I started listening to this audio book. I find this type of ‘true crime historical fiction’ so thrilling! If you are familiar with ‘history’ (or not – remember, Wikipedia is your friend) it is always intriguing to see how to author fills in the blanks around the true life events. We know what the outcome was, but how did it get to that point?
The location is Manchester, UK in 1965. Children are going missing in the area, and the community is getting more tense a ..read more
