Deceiving, I win!

Card games require a lot of calculation, when betting is involved. I have played a couple of games and one of my favorites is Poker. The tension surfacing the Casino table after every move of the players surrounding it, is just thrilling! One can make fortunes out of nothing and it could also be the other way round. More often the latter dominates. Today we are observing an excellent, detailed work by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, an Italian Artist, who created this piece in ca 1595 known as The Cardsharp. The Cardsharp is a person who wins the game by deceiving his opponents, trying diff ..read more

Born in Maharashtra, Maqbool Fida Husain (1915 - 2011) started with his career as an artist in Mumbai in 1937. He learnt the art all by himself, a self-trained Artist! We will know more about him later in this blog. Let us first start with the Observation of The Lady with a Blue tiger. - The Lady is lying down, perhaps in the middle of a dense forest resting her head against a tree. - She appears to me as a tribal woman with her typical tribal attire, a white necklace, pitch black hair untied. Also a bracelet can be observed on her right hand. Both the ornaments seem to be worn by tribal folk ..read more

How would one feel when his sense of hearing stops functioning? Imagine yourself in such a situation where everything around you is in a mute mode! Even a simple thought inside your head would be louder than a 5.1 Home-theatre playing a metal song on full volume! A thought as simple as, Such a wonderful morning OR Have mercy you barbarians! Stop killing my fellow country-men for your own political motives! The latter could probably be a thought inside Goya's head , if we generalize his ordeal through all those years of invasion and revolt on his own soil. Not just the loss of hearing but also ..read more

The Spanish civil war, which began in 1820 with a revolt of the militants against the absolutist rule of King Ferdinand v11, ended in 1823 after the agreement between the European Crowned Heads allowing the French army to invade Spain which is also called as Spanish Expedition by the French army. Francisco Goya, the creator of the dark masterpieces which we are going to observe today, moved to Madrid in 1819 and purchased Quinta del Sordo (Villa of a Deaf man). As the name suggests, the owner of the Villa was a deaf man. Coincidently, Goya was diagnosed with a severe illness when he was 42 whi ..read more

The magic of the Lute!

Have you ever heard someone playing a Lute? I bet you didn't! Not many play this instrument these days because of certain drawbacks related to its volume. In the medieval era, this instrument made its place in the Baroque music style, a typical European style of music in other words. To be honest, I had never heard the sound of Lute, but before writing this blog, I streamed a few songs Online and trust me, the sound has a power, a power of healing! It is originally Arabic but what I feel is, it has a touch of Nordic style of music. The ravishing, sweet, royal and ecstatic would be the right wo ..read more

This article is in reference to an Artwork capturing a biblical event of the Assyrian era, probably painted in the year 1599 by Caravaggio. According to the texts, the Assyrian army was well determined to siege the Jewish city of Bethulia which was located on a Summit of a Mountain, which was, in a way, a Strength for the Israelites, as they could see each and every movement of the enemy from the summit of the Hill. Unfortunately, the Assyrian troops took control of the springs at the bottom of that Hill, which was the only source of water for the Israelites, compelling them to panic and suffe ..read more

All of us are familiar with this piece of Art. We have a vague memory of this Portrait Painting from the history textbooks, but we hardly bothered going into the details of it. The Portrait that we are going to observe today is of a beautiful, young and elegant Lady Lisa Gherardini (1479 - 1542), also known as "Mona Lisa". One of the greatest Masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci. To start with, let us know a little more about her.. She was the wife of an affluent Florentine silk merchant Francesco del Giocondo, an Italian noblewoman. Very little is known about her personal life though. She was pr ..read more

How to read a Painting?

This Question has not been asked by many, as far as I have observed, who have predilections for the world of Arts. The answer to this Question is not confined to a particular Definition or a Method. Understanding Art is nothing but discovering the series of Emotions and channelize it through Color Contrasts, Shapes, Words, Expressions, Background, and many other factors. The Artwork could be a vivid representation of the Beautiful and Ugly, Dark and Bright, Concrete and Abstract, Wild and the Tame, Extremity and Neutrality, Negative and Positive Emotions, and so on. For Starters, let us introd ..read more
