Paid Partnership with Revyz
Hey there, Jira Guys and Gals! Yes, it’s been a minute. Between putting together talks post Team ’24 and working on The Jira Life, I’ve had little creative juice left for here. Fair enough, but there is only one way to get back on the horse, which starts now.
Revyz contacted me not too long ago and unloaded some interesting info. Apparently, this article I wrote back in 2021 is one of the top Google returns for “Jira Backup.” But, looking back at it, it could be better. First off, it’s exclusively about DC and Server. I still think this holds ..read more

Good Evening, Jira Guys and Gals. Day 2 of Team ’24 is now complete, and it’s been a crazy full day. So what was revealed, what’s worth talking about, and what do you need to know to get up to speed? Let’s dig into this keynote and see what are the big features this year!
General Updates
Lets talk about how Atlassian now has 300,000 customers. As I stated last year when they have 250,000, growth in this number is great as it gives you more places you could potentially work. I would still like to see how they count this number. Does this blog’s test instance coun ..read more

Hey Jira Guys and Gals, How have you been? Me, I’ve been busy. If you haven’t seen, I’ve partnered with Alex at Apetech Tech Tutorials to start a podcast/weekly video called The Jira Life. We’ve been hitting it hard since the start of the year and have seen good growth. We recently hit 1000 subscribers. So, if you have yet to see it, please check it out and subscribe! While I’ve missed working on the blog, I’ve needed a bit of a change of pace to recharge my creative batteries. But, I’m back!
Unfortunately, what brings me back here could be more fun. Yesterday, Atlassian dropped their monthly ..read more

Good Morning, Jira Guys and Gals! I hope you had an enjoyable (and, most importantly, restful) holiday season and are entering 2024 strong! I know I am – I have so many plans for this blog, The Jira Life, and my social media profiles that if everything works out, 2024 will be amazing.
Speaking of amazing times, I got an email from one of you on my birthday. While I always appreciate emails from fans – I especially love ones that give me a topic to write about!
The reader wanted to know my thoughts on naming conventions of objects – how to go about naming the various schemes and settings in Jir ..read more

Good Morning, Jira Guys and Gals. I hope your week is going well. If you missed it, I posted a bonus article Monday talking about Atlassian Intelligence. But as promised, we are (finally) continuing our “What is Jira” series today.
So, the question we are answering today is, “Why Jira?” That is, why would you choose Jira? What benefits are there? What are the frustrations? After all, to answer the question “Why Jira,” we must also answer, “Why anything but Jira?” Let’s dig into this!
Flexibility
If I need to clarify it, this is the main reason you should select Jira. The consensus is that the ..read more

Hello, Jira Guys and Gals! As you can see, this post isn’t on my normal post schedule! That’s because we have big news coming from Atlassian today!
Last April, at Team 23, the world was introduced to Atlassian Intelligence, Atlassian’s Large Language Model development effort designed to help you get more work done. Today, at Atlassian Unleash, Atlassian has announced that Atlassian Intelligence is Generally Available. And guess who has the low down on what’s included, what it allows you to do, and how you can get your hands on it? Let’s dig into this!
What is Atlassian Intelligence?

Good Morning, Jira Guys and Gals. Last week…was something. Let me explain. Most of you saw this ominous post:
I won't say what caused it this morning (story for another time), but my heart condition is out of control. This obiously needs to be top priority, so likely no post today. #healthfirst #hcm @4hcm #AtlassianCreator @Atlassian pic.twitter.com/U0RPGj5hpM
— Rodney N – The Jira Guy (@theJiraguy) November 22, 2023
And yeah, my heart rate was not under control. But that was only half of what was going on. Anyone who’s seen me in any appearance over the past few weeks will know I’ve had a ..read more

Good Morning, Jira Guys and Gals. I’m going to be making a different sort of post today. Most of my posts are directed towards Jira Admins – people who already know Jira. If that’s you, I’m sorry to disappoint, but this post isn’t for you. Instead, I want to direct it at a different sort – people new to Jira. If you’ve just been told your team will start using Jira to organize your work, and you’re unsure how to pronounce it, this is for you.
What even is Jira? Why would I want to start using it? What are its advantages and disadvantages? What’s the difference between Software, Ser ..read more

Hey, Jira Guys and Gals. Yes, it’s been a minute. I needed a (few) Mental Health Month(s). That said, I was hardly idle – what with The Jira Life Podcast, JiraCon, Jira Day, welcoming a new cohort of Atlassian Creators, and more – I stayed busy.
The intermediate business leads me to today’s post. I got a question a few weeks ago that caught my attention. When I first read it, I immediately responded, “Really, how do you answer that?” There are so many variables that went into their simple question that I initially struggled to answer it. I even had to check with the Atlassian Abyss to ma ..read more

Happy Wednesday, Jira Guys and Gals. I hope your week has been a great one so far. Before I get into it, I want to thank everyone for the support you have shown me over the past week. Whether it’s partners reaching out with Job offers and sponsorship proposals, readers celebrating, or even Atlassian’s social media & learning team showing their support, I’ve felt the love.
So, what are we talking about today? This weekend, I dove in and started bringing a Raspberry Pi Kubernetes cluster online. It’s smaller than I’d hoped – with the chip shortage, finding new Raspberry Pi system ..read more
