This is my first real quilt and I am excited to begin. I want to change the fabric pieces that go between the roofs of the small houses and the "sky" pieces above the tall buildings. I have a different fabric in mind for that area. How do I determine the correct yardage for these areas? I want to use this block as a tribute to my daughter and grand children. Can I make the center (larger point) from one color and the back points with 2 different colors in each alternating? I am using batiks..center would be Amethyst (daughter's birthstone), with Emerald and May (granddaughter's birthstone and month) as one wedge, then next wedge would be Citrine and November (grandson's birthstone and month) as the next wedge.
