Recent transplant from Whidbey Island in Washington State to monsoon atmospheric river San Francisco East Bay. Heard on the news that the area received a year's worth of rain in two weeks. It is drier in Seattle :laughing:. Up north, some kids on ATVs knocked over my wooden property corner stake and tossed it into the woods. I needed to find the pin so we could measure the wetlands and easement for a building project. Surveyor wanted $1500 to find the metal stake, so I bought a Garrett Ace 300. Took me ten minutes. So I saved $1200 and got a new toy. Looking at buying the Z-Lynk Wir ..read more

Got out this afternoon with a shot at a different beach. There were coins everywhere and deep. Used my old surf pi again today. Works really well in the black sand, steady and stable. Got three silver rings, silver rosie, sterling chain/pendants marked miansai. There's a US Dollar coin and an Australian Dollar coin. Just couldn't find the Gold:no: Stayed dry and hunted till the sun set. HH Attached Images    ..read more

Yesterday I went back to the yard where on Sunday I had dug a war nickel, A silver Rosie, a couple wheats and some clad. Using the 900, same coil & settings it was like night and day from Sunday. That day the 900 ran smooth, quiet and was nailing coins effortlessly. Monday signals where scratchy and targets hard to locate. Although there was no audible EMI there is a medical building located maybe 80 ft. behind the yard and they were closed on Sunday but open on Monday. Can't help but wondering if all that equipment and computers running didn't affect the performance of the 900. It was ver ..read more

Looking for detector suggestions for a 10 y/o boy to get started in metal detecting. A friend of mine wants to get one for his kid, he knows I detect so he asked me for advice. Looking for something that will not break the bank but is also decent quality. My Garrett Infinium L&S and AT Pro pretty much cover the bases for me so I have not kept up with the recent models. My friend said they would be hunting around his ranch and on the beach. I explained the differences between VLF and PI and they are not planing on doing any saltwater hunting yet so it looks like a VLF. Thoughts, suggestions ..read more

Took my 75year old dad out detecting today. He picked the spot. I gave him 5 flags and told him to mark 5 targets and I’ll dig them. He was like a little kid anxious to go. He’s been waiting to go again since I started hunting. Well the area we went to is the same old school he use to hunt back in the day. The same school he found lots of silver, back in the 80s. I’ve been telling him I believe most of the silver has been pulled. It’s been detected so much and hard be lots of people like him back in the day. Be he believes my legend must be on the wrong setting that I’m not finding silver. So ..read more

It was fun while it lasted! I believe that I have hunted 8 of the first 9 days of 2023. I've already posted about some of those earlier hunts but more recently I've hunted different beaches farther north with KOB and 14k, who were both very gracious and helpful. Here is a picture of the jewelry and silver coins for the year, so far: Of course, the weather with its beach eroding surf is the main reason for my recent finds. The California coast has been battered by storm driven surf for most of the year and lots of treasure have been recovered. As KOB mentioned in another post, a short time in ..read more

My Christmas gift of a book has helped me unearth a bevy of locations I didn't know about. Using cross research, maps, university archives , and news paper articles these locations start showing age results. Some locations I've found within maps from the 1900's are mentioned in news paper clippings as far back as 1854. One location, oldest age unknown, is this hotel(map pic). It sits on private property but I know mail service was provided to this vicinity in 1854. The map I took this from is 1890. There were a series of homes by this hotel. All of them are now on undeveloped or agricultural l ..read more
