It’s been a ride for 2022, especially the 2nd half. Stocks have tumbled, Celsius and FTX collapsed, sold my car (Yups~). Much have happened and if you’re in the same boat, well, I feel you too. But let’s take a look at how we actually did in terms of numbers, shall we? Side note: The Financial Position template used to produce this post is free to download via my template page here. Net Worth Tracker Net worth is measured by taking total assets (e.g. properties, stocks, cash, etc) minus total liabilities (debts e.g. mortgage, car loans, credit cards amount owing, etc). (Guest Article) Flood Insurance: Highlights of 2021
Between The Money

Been a long time since I have an update! Today, here’s a guest article that is quite relevant for Malaysians for my dear readers to enjoy whilst I start conjuring up my article on house renovation! Excited to share with you all on my journey soon! It’s long… so expect a multi-part series. Flood strongly impacts victims, and the damage caused is unacceptably massive. Flood risk istypically covered by property and fire insurance, and it is the product of the vulnerability toflooding multiplied by the total value of the assets at risk due to the flood. Having floodinsurance is highly significant ..read more

Comparing on-demand streaming services (Netflix, Disney, etc)

Today I’m going to be selfish and write about something that I’m doing research for myself on! If you’ve been following, I recently bought a new home to move in to, and is (still) in the midst of renovation. The process is… very grueling, to say the least. Something that I’ll be sharing in parts in the near future once all the dust (pun intended) settles down. Part of the reno + moving in process is that I can finally get my own smart TV! Yes, I’m currently living without one. With the smart TV, comes a choice of what should I stream from it. (illegal) TV Boxes I can’t say for other parts of t ..read more

Increasing income: Over 50% increment
Between The Money

There was a time during my career lows that everything was muddied and increment / promotion / bonus was like breathing in space (= impossible). That was also a prime learning point that taught me a very good lesson about the kind of boss to work with (shared in my post here). So moving on from that experience, I took up a position in another company after careful consideration. They say interview is a 2-way thing. That is true, but that is only the start. I also took ample effort to understand the bosses, business, company, people around, culture, etc even after starting in the new position ..read more

Are we rich?
Between The Money
by Jason

Whoo! It’s been quite hectic for me! Haven’t had the time to produce contents as I’m spending most of my time on the trio of things – Work, Reno, Wedding planning! That’s why I’ve been pretty quiet for the past month+. Well, I’m back this week (at least) to look into a very specific question that suddenly came to me recently and I decided to dig deeper into. “Are we (me and/or you) considered rich?” This question stems from the thought that money is never really enough for the majority of people. The more we earn, the more we spend. This is the result of constantly “upgrading” our lifestyle as ..read more

The Power of Leverage (Debt)
Between The Money
by Jason
2y ago
Time and time again you see people, especially in the personal finance space, condemn debt/borrowings/loans as something that we should not have to achieve financial freedom. On the other hand, we have the investing community who loves debt – or in a more sophisticated word “leverage”. Both are right.. in different contexts. Hence, there have been a lot of burning questions around about “how much loan should I take?”, “How many years of loan?”, “Should I even take loan for it?”, “Should I pay fully in cash?” Understanding debt Debt is a concept that is frequently associated with banks, whereby ..read more

Investing minds during market crashes
Between The Money

As the market enters a mini correction phase, I started to see people panic and a lot of “interesting” comments surfaced. It’s clear that fear flooded a bunch of people, whilst greed infected others, and the rest are just dumb-founded. So, here’s a few things that go through my mind as I (humorously) go through those comments of “Cut loss”, “buy the dip”, “crash is coming”, etc. I saved the best for the last~! Investor vs Traders If you’re thinking I’m going to say that investors don’t have to worry and traders do… well, that’s not true. As both myself, I know that we could definitely sail thr ..read more

My opinion on EPF withdrawals
Between The Money

Coming out of the COVID pandemic (yes, I know we’re not out of it yet) lockdowns from last year, I’ve been seeing a lot of news headlines on Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the people’s opinions about it. Some example of news headlines are: How massive withdrawal will affect markets (Article) Withdraw more and we’ll work till we die (Article) Almost half of EPF members have less than RM10k (Article) EPF withdrawals are a dire need for people’s survival (Article, Article) And on and on… What the people think Whilst scrolling comments, I’m surprised to see a majority of people are actually ar ..read more

BTM Year 2021 in Review
Between The Money

Happy new year! As we welcome 2022, it is also time to reflect back at Year 2021 and see far we’ve come. Without further ado.. Here’s mine. Net Worth Tracker Net worth is measured by taking total assets (e.g. properties, stocks, cash, etc) minus total liabilities (debts e.g. mortgage, car loans, credit cards amount owing, etc). Over the last 6 months since my half year review in June 2021, my net worth fell by 35%, mainly because I bought a new home and spent on renovations. The value of the property may be higher once it’s said and done, but at this juncture, I chose to remain the value as my ..read more
