Hey there, my light meter all of a sudden stopped working. I am using my M6 regularly. Today I put a new film in and when I pulled the advance lever and half pressed the shutter, the red dots indicating over- or underexposure didn’t appear. I even put in a new battery but nothing. Do you guy‘s have any idea? I don‘t want to spend a lot of money sending it in. I‘m looking forward to your responses! Thank you very much ..read more

Screw on correction lens

Dear all, I have lost the screw-on correction lens for the finder. I have no idea why it could fell off. Did that happen to anybody before that it just felt off? Anyway I need to replace it. I used it on my M9 and M3. I shoot mostly 50mm, very seldom 35mm. The correction lens was essential for me on the M9. There are loupes and correction lenses on the market. What is the difference between the two? The loupe is said to magnify the finder view. The loupe surely can be used for people who don't need correction but the correction lens basically also just magnifies the finder, doesn't it? I w ..read more

Differing tightness of fit M4-P back door compared with later models

A post by Bigglesworth has prompted me to make this enquiry. I have some different 35mm M models dating from M6TTL bought in about 2000 through M7 bought a couple of years later to MPs all bought a few months before the pandemic. All work fine and, touch wood, none is giving me any problems of any kind. So the post is of the non-essential kind... on a recently acquired and in excellent working and cosmetic condition black M4-P the back door is a slightly looser fit than the uniformly tighter fit of the other cameras already mentioned. I have not noticed any light leaks, looking at the HP5 f ..read more

Catching up with Summilux-M 50/1.4 ASPH

Embarrassing to admit but I'm only just getting round to using the Summilux-M 50/1.4 ASPH that I bought new soon after it came out (serial no. starts 405-). Possibly ten years ago or more! Bearing in mind film use only are there any quirks at all of this design I should be aware of such as character at different apertures and more especially operational constraints such as focus shift? I had a feeling I read somewhere of some problems with early examples but have no recollection what they were. As I can't 'chimp' my film shots it would be good to be forewarned! I am really looking forward to u ..read more

How usable are 28mm framelines in 0.72 viewfinders?

Hi there, I'm in the market for a new to me Leica. Currently I shoot with an MDa paired with an Elmarit 28mm. I got received the lens in a trade and bought the MDa on a whim as it was listed for dirt cheap. Prior to using this combo I had been wanting to jump into the Leica system, and having had some experience with it I now know that the 28mm focal length is a great fit for the style of photographs I want to make. I've been having a blast with this setup, I fashioned a DIY external viewfinder by glueing a viewfinder from a broken point&shoot to a handcrafted steel hot shoe insert. This ..read more

Suggestions for replacing back door of M6 TTL (with door from earlier Leica M models)

Hi all, this is the first post I've made on this forum, apologies if this is in the wrong place or anything. I'm looking at buying a Leica M6 TTL with a non-functioning meter. I am not overly concerned at repairing this feature as I am used to shooting sans-in-camera meter. The reason for replacing it are purely cosmetic - the back door has several bad scrapes around the metal trim, and the centre of the ISO dial is missing. I am wondering if it is possible to replace this with a back door with a part from an M4/M4-2/M4-P? Or any other Leica M bar the M6 (as these parts seem pretty hard to ..read more

What a great day. Sunny, plenty hot and humid, but I didn't mind. Pulled out my delicious Leica M-A mated to a Summicron 50/2 version 5 and shoot two rolls of Tri-X. Meterless, battery less just a smooth marvel of full on creativity. Oh sure I metered each new venue with an iPhone app just to get my bearings. Then I went full creative. Subjects were nothing special but the ultimacy of me, my camera and lens. It was a great day! Back home and I'm smiling. :D ..read more

New M2 to me - advice on viewfinder separation

Hi all, Bought a clean M2 from Tamarkin. The camera operates smoothly. I do see separation in the viewfinder, but when shooting I have not experienced any problems or inconvenience. Just wondering if people would recommend bringing this up to Tamarkin. Their customer service is stellar of course, so I'm not worried about their helpfulness. I did pay a premium for the camera though: should I worry about this deteriorating quickly over time? Photo attached. Kind of hard to capture, but I think the photo shows it clearly.
