I use the Dakota to deliver mail on an occasional basis and have had the transmission replaced 3x in the past 3 years. The last time it was changed out was in January 2024 when the second transmission barely made it to the shop. About 3 weeks later I took it in to get checked out again just before the warranty expired because after about an hour when going from reverse to forward or forward to reverse, the transmission would hesitate then harsh engagement. This time they did more than... New to the forum and need help with 2004 Dodge Dakota ..read more

Hey folks, I’ve got an 05, 4wd club cab with the 4.7 v8 and have a starting issue. It was running great until I parked it at work. When on lunch, some 4 hours later I went to retrieve a tool from it and instead of opening the rear door I folded the drivers seat forward. When I was off work the seat was stuck folded forward. I had to remove it. I thought I’d just use a bucket till I got a new seat. However, that point it wouldn’t start. Not even a click. Battery is fully charged. Dash lights... My transfer case (nv231) started making lots of noise when the front output shaft is spun so I completely removed my front driveshaft and the noise went a way for a while but than the chains started making lots of noise so I secured the output shaft so the chains cant spin. I have finally sourced a replacement T-Case but I have to drive 600 miles round trip to get it (I live in Alaska). I have been driving the truck with the shaft secured for 200+ in town miles with no issue or noises but Im... Transfer case question ..read more

1999 Sport 3.9L A/T 206K miles. Tonight I drove it to my location, no issues. Then trying to start as I was leaving I got nothing. No cranking, lights didn't dim nothing.. beat on the starter, checked all the fuses and relays nothing.. I noticed the taillights and the turn signal markers were illuminated when the car was off and no key in the ignition. I disconnected the battery to shut them off and called AAA.. about 20 mins later I reconnected the battery to charge my phone, and the... starting issues ..read more

I.O.D. Short - Intermittent Stalling
Dakota Forumz

Hello all, I have a 97 Dakota SLT with a v6 3.9L magnum that has intermittent stalling issues. After verifying everything I possibly could mechanically and replacing dang near every sensor. I began checking electricals and have determined there to be a short in the truck. I started pulling fuses to identify where and I pulled the I.O.D. fuse in the cabin and lo and behold that is the culprit. I also noted a relay plug is burnt that seems to be for the ignition, hazard lights and turn signals... I.O.D. Short - Intermittent Stalling ..read more
