I annually attended The Wings of Eagles airshow event in Geneseo, NY to grab shots like this. By using my Nikon D2x coupled to a Sigma 100-300 zoom, I was able to catch fairly decent shots. I love the one at the left below! the pic to the right is a 90%. The plane are shown well but more important is the pilots are fully shown ..read more

I have just bought a new Nikon Zf (I get it on Tuesday in Malaysia). Yesterday I saw on eBay a Nikon 105mm f1.8 AIS for around 400 bucks so I asked my mate in KL if he could get me one in Malaysia..... He came back with Ive got one of these the Nikon 105mm f2.0 DC AF-D, so we got chatting and another mate of mine in KL has a Carl Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 ZF...............I cant afford all 3 but out of this bunch what would your recommend for portraiture ..read more

A good combo

Some five or six years ago my daughter surprised me on Christmas with a new Nikon D3500 having resolution better than I ever had. At 24.2 MP resolving capacity therefor detail beyond my eyes......however......I am a fan of the night skies and in particular, the Moon. Although best viewing needs a formal telescope, I've gotten very decent with my Sigma APO 100-300mm 1:4 D with a 1.4 tele-booster. I also add a 25% desktop boost as I call it. Besides night sky work, it's proved itself during... Read more ..read more

Oh my gosh have I learned to appreciate the N90s I've got. It's a perfect partner to my F5. It has the racy styling of the 90's but the solid guts of an upper ended Nikon. It is what I've nick named my "plastic fantastic" but darn, the thing works well. Being a semi pro level rig it is full featured. As with a majority of eBay purchases it was in pristine shape. Once I had this in my hands, I found two faults neither of which were listed on the listing. I still smile remembering what I got... Read more ..read more

The color!

I'll say it time and time again, it's the color and tone that makes one of my digital photos pop to catch the eyes. My Kodak doesn't have a huge CCD at 6 pix but by leveraging many years of color experience Kodak produced a very true sensor. Built like a tank with a weight to match, it shouldn't be an all-day hike companion. As much as I rave about the color rendition there's equal groans due to the battery life I have now. While the second market batteries work, they need recharging more... Read more ..read more

I bought a Z50 with the 2 kit lenses back when they 1st came out and I've been happy with it. I've always thought I needed an ultra wide zoom like a 12-24 but Nikon has been reluctant to make any DX Z lenses. I think only a 18-140 and now they have made an ultrawide with blogging in mind. The other day I was browsing KEH and I just put Nikon DX in the search window. There are a bunch of really nice DX f mount lenses at bargain prices. I got a 12-24 f/4 (no caps but otherwise like new)... Read more ..read more

So I bought myself a new/old 1960s Nikon 55mm f1.2 lens to try on my Z9. Using it in manual focus was a breeze once I reassigned the zoom button to the multi purpose joystick making it easier to zoom in for critical focus (we’ll get to that in a minute) Anyway me and my girlfriend went out into Phuket old town to try this new lens out and it was really good fun. When we got home I uploaded the pictures into Lightroom and then I was like “SH*T” looking at them in full view they looked okay... Read more ..read more

New old lens

Looked at an old lens in my camera case yesterday. 35-135 Nikon still here from the film days. Some reason I never used it much back then either. I think it's called a full frame lens and 35-135 on a digital turns into something else. What I found out was it just takes pretty nice photo's! Used to have a 70-210 around somewhere that wasn't to bad either. This 35-135 would make a pretty nice walking around lens I think. But don't think it's made any more. Yesterday was the first time in quite... Read more ..read more
