Hi Folks
I'm looking to buy a copy of the 40-ish year old Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 ai-s manual lens, a lens with a great reputation because of its sharpness, compact size and light weight. The particular version of this lens was made for the Japanese market, and most available are being sold from Japan.
A seller who is very thorough in his description, and when answering my questions gets into even more detail, says on inspection with an LED light that his lens has several 'dot scratches' or...

The difference in price, oh, about $2,000.
If I want the Nikkor, I most likely will have to wait until next summer. The Samyang I can buy next week, maybe $300 to $500. The question is. Is the Samyang worth owning? The no autofocus might not be a problem. I am attempting to figure out astrophotography, (not as easy as it sounds.) I see my self sitting in Yellowstone Park taking long exposures of the Norris geyser...

My Nikkor 55-105 has a very narrow metallic strip around the lens that's beginning to come unstuck ... only about an inch for now. Part of me says it's ok to intentionally pull it loose the rest of the way. After all it appears to be primarily decorative. An alternative would be to find the right kind of adhesive and stick on the loose end. Would be very tricky to maneuver.
This lens is a Nikon re-con. If the strip is totally removed the groove left behind is narrow enough to look...

You guys are good at this: Please recommend the SD cards you would use for consecutive wildlife (or sports) action shots. I have some that I think are pretty fast, but I wonder what would be optimum (brand names, etc.). Thanks.
PS Please count out XQD and CF Express because they are for use on Olympus OM-1 which, unfortunately, accepts SDs only ..read more

Hi all,
After awhile shooting with a old Canon EOS1DS camera I just missed using a Nikon so
I found a nice D3, yes I know it's older but I popped an AF50mm F1.8 on it and it still holds up
to me there's something about it's quality it's almost film like. I took a few shoots wide open F 1.8
and it looks good. I know some would say hey why didn't you get a "Z" well I'm already invested
in a Leica and a Fuji, so this D3 fill's the SLR gap that was missing....
