Hi all, how easy is it to be able to shorten the drop tube of a semi flush light fitting ? Essentially what tools would I need for cutting the threaded stem if I shorten the tube ? i.e. if the light hangs down too low and I want to raise it up closer to the ceiling. I've threaded plenty of conduit in my time but never tube or stems this small. It will be a single tube stem a bit like the one in the photo.n this photo ..read more

As the title says.
But then I cut off a jst connection off one of the light strips and I can't get them to work together... the one strip is plug and play and I wanted to attach the next one to the strip at the end so they work on the same command. The second string won't work at all aside from a couple lights on the strip. I've tried so many different...

My kitchen has track lighting.
It consists of three halogen light bulbs.
I've had the fixture for more than 25 years with no issues.
Last night as I was standing in the kitchen all the lights went out.
At first I thought it was a power failure in the neighborhood.
But I quickly saw that there was power in other rooms of my house.
I think something shorted somehow as there might have been a very slight pop sound.
I went to the basement and tried resetting the circuit breakers but it didn't...

I need your help please once again in tracing a fault. Am DIY but not clueless. Converting former kitchen into 2 rooms: bathroom and laundry. The room had 24 cheapo ceiling spots, originally tungsten then 240v GU10 LEDs that I am replacing. Circuit spilt into two halves with two gang wall switch controlling (this will be in the laundry side). There is also a redundant smoke detector wired in to the same circuit.
I pulled down the spots in what will be bathroom in order to repair ceiling...
