A lot of the old timers here will remember Joe Maringo and his rescue organization SPARRO and Shades of Gray Sanctuary. I follow him on Facebook and he has lost his food supplier after 20 years and is making a (heartbreaking) request for dog food for all his rescues. Hopefully we (the lab board) can came through give him a helping hand and send him some dog food. He has a wish list on Chewy (link below) or if y’all know of another place you like to order from the please send him some love.

Hello. I am new to the forum and joined to learn more about the breed and how to find a well bred dog. I recently lost an elderly dog and decided to switch to Labs as my current dog and breed is very intense. We are looking for a more social breed for the next dog. I’m in California. I know something about Labs, the difference between field bred dogs and show dogs, but I don’t know a lot about how to read pedigrees, what health clearances to look for and how to find a well bred dog that can do the tasks I want it to do. I look forward to meeting you and learning more ..read more

Posting this in the senior health section.
Ursa is doing much better since we finally figured out her main health problem. Poor girl, we were bad dog owners :(.
Yes, Ursa's eyesight is changing as she's getting older. She's now 12.7 years old. She has some arthritis, but not bad enough to stop her from playing soccer at the park daily. Overall, Ursa is a healthy senior girl. But we neglected to see that Ursa had a bad ear infection :(. We don't often have ear infection with our Labs, so that's my excuse, lol.
Ursa had been mopey for a while and having trouble going up and down the stairs, s ..read more

So Opie’s getting old these days and isn’t as peppy to go on our hikes. He does hike a while but not long so I got Merle Mutt III. Merle was adopted from the local animal shelter where he had been a while. He was gotten by the shelter a couple mos back from a abuse/neglet incident in a nearby town. There was a litter. When I went in there where only two boys Merle and his brother. My only regret is that I couldn’t take his brother too. They said he is Lab/Healer mix. No matter what Merle is has no bearing to me, he is fitting in perfectly and has brought a new dimension of love into our family ..read more

The other thread was getting big so I decided to open a new one for Sonic's pictures at 4 months.
Sonic is a really good boy. Hasn't had accidents in the house in a while (but he still gets out 6x a day - I still don't trust him to hold his bladder for more than 2.5 - 3 hours during the day - he is fine and sleeps the whole night, no issues there). I have also switched him to raw completely, because he was getting runny stools that turned into watery diarrhea from kibble. However I'll need to find a kibble brand that suits him because he will be my camping buddy. He is doing great on just raw ..read more

Macy crossed the rainbow bridge today. My heart is broken. I hadn't said anything here about her health lately as it honestly hurt too much. Last night we knew it was time to say goodbye to our heart dog. My sweet big girl can run free, swim and play ball again. We were with her here at home and petted her and sang and loved her up as she went over the bridge. 12 1/2 years was not long enough to love on her and have her love us ..read more

Hello how are you? As some of you may already know, I have an English Cocker and he loves to bite things, in fact unfortunately he has broken some things in my home, that is why I want to find him some type of toy so that he can bite it and get rid of the urge to bite, In addition to playing and having a good time, but I need the toy to be of good quality, I don't want him to bite the toy and get hurt or get poisoned by the material of the toy or who knows what, that's why I wanted to ask you for help. Do you know any stores that sell quality toys to buy for my cocker that you can recommend to ..read more

We now have a 13 week old yellow lab, and when we picked him up, the breeder had him on Life's Abundance- All Life Stages, and recommend we continue with that brand.
We fed our previous yellow lab Fromm 4 Star varieties, and he did fine on Fromm, and I believe Fromm to be a good brand.
My major concern with Life's Abundance, is some ingredients are sourced from China, and the cost, due to the multilevel distribution system.
I'm considering switching our lab to Fromm, but will wait till he is a little older to avoid any change over issues.
I would greatly any and all comments/recommendation ..read more
