Buying a 1996 Ghibli ?

Hi, I'm considering the purchase of a 1996 Ghibli but have some concerns regarding maintenance and service. Anyone who can tell me from their own experience what I'm looking at when it comes to service, costs and breakdowns ? It seems that on the internet there are mostly negative stories about horrible reliability issues and tremendous annual costs. This scares me a bit. Not so much the cost (if reasonable) but mainly the breakdowns as I intent to use the car for my daily driving. I... Read more ..read more

ZF gearbox servive

My 2007 4.2 ZF auto had some sluggish gear changes yesterday. At 98,000 miles, it must be overdue for a gearbox fluid change. I was going to replace the fluid, filter, gasket and sump plug washer, but I've noticed some kits online that include a new gearbox sump and the 20 bolts securing the sump. On other cars I have not replaced the sump before. Is there a particularly good reason to change the sump and bolts too ..read more

Should I be worried?

I am a member of an internet car forum where activities seem, shall we say, a little unconventional; one member declares that he is off to change his bra whilst another is "carless but curious and looking". I've had a very sheltered life, and I never imagined that motoring could be so diverse. Is this normal for social media, and should I become an MP so that I might better understand the 'complexities' of modern life ..read more

Hello all I’m interested in delving into the world of Maseratis after many years of wanting one. I originally wanted a QP but now im aiming for a 4200. I currently have a Robin Hood kit car but want something more usable and with 4 seats. I’m based in Helensburgh not too far from Glasgow. Looking forward to researching the cars before hopefully acquiring one. I work as a mechanical engineer so I’m keep to do as much maintenance as possible myself. It’s part of the enjoyment of... Hi all. I'm looking to buy a 2019/20 Granturismo Sport (mainly for the Skyhook), but I am having real difficulty distinguishing between Sport and MC models. (Most dealers seem to conflate the two.) Any advice on obvious differences would be gratefully received. Many thanks. Paul ..read more

I am am having an issue with the function of the easy entry on the passenger seat of my 2004 Maserati 4200 The seat works perfectly in all directions using the control buttons on the side of the seat so no issues there it appears When folding forward the seat to activate the easy entry it moves around 1" forward then just stops. To try and resolve i have cleaned and greased the runners, reset the battery and completed the reset on the seat numerous times by manipulating the button but to... Read more ..read more

MOT failure

I took my 2006 4.2 ZF auto QP5 to The MOT station today. It failed due to the parking brake not being sufficiently powerful. I can see the cables moving in the boot when the handbrake is applied, however it is not providing enough force to hold the car. I did notice that there was quite a lot of play in the cables. I did have some water ingress in the boot, about a month ago (following injudicious pressure washing) I wonder how this might be connected. I will try to adjust the handbrake in... Clutch wear claims from Selling (independent) dealership

Hi All, As some of you know, I'm still new here and finding my way around. I've contacted a dealer about a 4200 Cambiocorsa they have listed on their Ebay page. One of the first questions I've asked about is clutch wear reading. The (truncated) conversation is shown below. Given what is said here by the dealership, should be taken at face value, or the fact that a reading isn't being offered, should make me look elsewhere ? I'm sure this won't be the last time I will be told the car is... Read more ..read more
