The decision to move forward with the development at 4085, 4091 and 4097 Bath Rd. has been delayed.
Prior to Tuesday’s council meeting, environmental advocates in Kingston were calling for council to delay the decision to move forward with this development near Collins Creek, raising concerns with the impact on the surrounding forest and wildlife.
When the motion came before council, Coun. Conny Glenn asked that the development be singled out for discussion.

On Monday afternoon, Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) provided an update on the LaSalle Causeway closure and the ongoing work to repair it.
While PSPC provided some details on the work that needs to be done, and will be completed in phases, the update provides no further clarity on how long repairs will take.
“PSPC and its dedicated team of specialized engineers and contractors have begun work on the repairs for the Bascule Bridge through a phased approach,” the release reads.

After nearly 100 days on the picket lines for civilian military workers in cities including Kingston, Non-Public Funds (NPF) workers will finally return to work this upcoming week.
Employees represented by Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE) have been at a crossroads with their employer, Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS), largely over discrepancies in pay between one base to another.

The city is moving forward with plans to end aid provided to the sleeping cabins project run by Our Livable Solutions (OLS) with city support.
Council voted in favour of city staff’s recommendations to relocate the cabins to Centre 70 in May for one final season before ending support for the program entirely at the end of September.
OLS is seeking out a way to continue the program independent of the city, and have until the end of September to find privately owned land where the cabins can live.

A sold out show at the Isabel Bader Centre celebrated the release of the RKY Summer Camp Album on Friday night.
The album, a compilation of a variety of Kingston albums, is a benefit album that is supporting the Campership Fund of the Kingston area RKY Camp.
On Friday, April 12 the Bader Centre welcomed a sold out benefit show with a number of performers from the album.
It’s a project led by Aaron Holmberg, a Kingston area audio engineer and producer, and the Bader Centre’s Technical Director.

Unions at Queen’s are considering coming together for future bargaining in an attempt to secure better deals across the board with the university.
Leaders of several of the unions at Queen’s held a joint public assembly on April 4 on Queen’s campus for members to hear about how union leaders intend to approach the upcoming round of bargaining with Queen’s.
The unions hope to follow in the footsteps of their peers at U of T in coordinating bargaining to try and secure better wages on a campus wide level.

Friday’s 5-1 loss to the North Bay Battalion spelled the end of the Kingston Frontenacs’ 2023-24 season and brief playoff run, improving upon their previous season where they missed the playoffs altogether.
The Frontenacs were able to secure one win against the Central division leading Battalion, but ultimately just couldn’t hold off their offence – an issue that’s been prevalent all year and the team knows needs addressing.

As Kingston prepares to welcome a mass influx of tourists on Monday, it appears the city will still have to contend with the closure of the LaSalle Causeway, with no new information available on when the crossing may be reopened.
The Causeway was set to reopen on Monday after a weekend of construction, but an incident -which has not been shared- compromised an element of the bridge.
