You can only mount devices. A folder is not a device, it's a file system abstraction that we use to interact with the device. Because of Linux's "everything is a file" philosophy, devices and folders look very similar, but they are different concepts. So, before the device is mounted, the folder is not even in existence. Once the device is mounted, the kernel reads the beginning parts of the device to "see" the file system that it is formatted with. But you can create a shortcut / Bookmark for that specific folder in your File Manager so that it will be right next to your mounted drives on th ..read more

I am confused by this post. Is this a suggestion to move LO to the document foundation PPAs instead of the ones that the Mint team is using? I am using this PPA which I think is the correct one from LO but looks different from what you have linked to. Are you suggesting this? Code: deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/libreoffice-ppa-jammy.gpg] https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/libreoffice/ppa/ubuntu jammy main 2. I started with the distro PPA and can no longer remember if I uninstalled it before adding the LO PPA. Perhaps my defaults carried over? In any case I would HATE it if it de ..read more

Hardware Support • How to update video driver
Linux Mint Forums

I am completely new to linux. I just installed LMDE-6 on an old 32bit Dell D620 "laptop". The display is very faded and double-vision rampant. I did find one place in the settings where I could change the resolution where much lower settings were better but wasted the screen. I settled for the lowest tolerable resolution setting. This is most likely due to a bad driver. 1. Is there a place under LMDE 6 where one can update the driver? and 2. is there be any guidance on which driver to select? Any help will be appreciated, but it will need to be very explicit in each step if I am to follow gi ..read more

...Being a bit of a movie nut... You say that like it's a bad thing. ...I'm very often dealing with large files though ... what with 4K video and Atmos soundtracks ... the files get quite large and if i want to transfer several of them to an external hard drive, I'm motivated to get things working in as timely a manor as possible. It's not like ... mission critical or anything though lol... My movie files usually aren't that large, maybe an average of 5-10GB per movie, so the time it takes to transfer them is not as much of a concern for me. Still, I avoid having to transfer them as much ..read more

That's the link, so far as I can tell, for submitting issues with Cinnamon spices applets--did I get that wrong? Notifications are handled by the applet notifications@cinnamon.org, or so I thought. Did I get that wrong, too? If so, my apologies. At any rate, that was my logic, since this appears to be a bug in how notifications are handled. But if Linux Mint notifications are handled somewhere else than in the applet literally called "Notifications," that seems really perverse. Live and learn, I guess. People find things I've never seen or found so I have learned to ask. There are some ap ..read more

I have just installed LMDE6 on an old 32bit windows pc and there is no option to connect to a wireless router (just like you described). The pre-existing WIRED profile seems to work and it connects. This is the first ever linux contact for me, so I know nothing about LMDE settings or its terminal commands. I could not find any kind of file or folders using the "File manager" (big problem-1 right there!) much less the file and location you mentioned. Then by a Wild-guess from DOS on the terminal window I manged to get cd /etc/NetworkManager to go to that folder. But how can I create the rest in ..read more

I use Xfce, so I don't know if it's available in MATE. See if there's a program called Screenshot. It should do what you need. If you need to use the keyboard, I assume that you could assign a keyboard combination to the command for Screenshot and specify in the command with an option to take the whole screen, etc. Statistics: Posted by JerryF — Sun Jul 21, 2024 9:28 pm ..read more
