Brake/Clutch Fluid

Due to work/moving, my 1980 88SW has been horribly neglected (not driven in about 3 years), but I’m going to bring her (and her 67 109SW sibling) back to life this summer. I know the clutch pedal goes all the way to the floor in the 88, so I suspect it has dumped all its fluid. I would guess the brakes need a top up as well, given the fluid in the wheels. I can’t seem to find Castrol Dot3/4 anywhere, and I saw in another forum that they don’t make it anymore. Is any Dot 3/4 brake fluid a suitable alternate? As my username implies, I’m a complete novice, but trying to learn. In general, is i ..read more

Seems like my Series 2a is getting intermittently fuel starved

Disclaimer: I can turn a few wrenches, but I'm NOT a mechanic by any means. I've had my '69 Series IIa 109 for about 5 years. Always ran well with some light maintenance and topping of fluids. No idea what engine I have other than it appears to be a four cylinder petrol. Engine number from the block stamp is 30600490K Recently, while driving she's not getting fuel. At random time she'll get fuel starved. I'll stomp the gas pedal to the floor with out much response kinda like idling and then, suddenly, she'll get fuel and get going again. So far I've replaced the fuel filter and the entire f ..read more

Price- $35,000 For sale is my 1979 Series III 88 finished in Admiralty Blue with mileage showing @17k but really TMU. I’ve owned, maintained and garage kept it for the past 9 ½ years. I’m the fourth owner since its conversion/restoration and, as an enthusiast, spent time documenting the history of it’s time. History: This S3 started life as military vehicle which saw duty in Belgium and Germany before being retired and sold into civilian life. In the capable hands of The Land Rover Center, Huddersfield, this S3 traded in its uniform for a complete, frame off overhaul and conversion to “stati ..read more

Hi all I'm reluctantly selling my Rangy, & after a submission to BaT was denied recently, I figured I would post it here before it goes to a broker. As the title suggests, this is a real 2-door LHD model (pre-USA spec), which originally went to a buyer in France. Prior to delivery it went to Wood & Pickett in London & had a body & interior conversion including fender flares, side panels, air dam, bull-bar, color to black, recaros, all veneer trim panels, Wolfrace alloys, etc, etc, it was high-end. At the time it also had a very comprehensive rustproofing, & I have all of th ..read more

Fuel does not stay in carburator.

In a 1973 Series 2 I have to prime the carburator with a bit of fuel if the vehicle has been left sitting any more than a day or two. After that she catches and works fine. If left a couple of weeks she might have to be primed with extra fuel or primed twice. Any suggestions on where to start looking first ..read more

Front exhaust pipe install with Koenig front winch PTO shaft in place
Rovers North Forums

I'm looking to replace a IIA 88 2.25 exhaust system on a Series with an original Koenig front winch that's driven by a front PTO shaft. The shaft runs forward and parallel between the frame and the block, towards the winch. I'm concerned the front/manifold end of the front exhaust pipe (with its sliding mounting ring) won't fit/squeeze up between the PTO shaft and the block, since that space is questionably narrow. I'd still have the same concern even if the install was attempted by feeding the front exhaust pipe downward through the engine bay vs. upward from under the truck. Looking thing ..read more

1971 Series IIA Restoration

Hello all, years ago I had a 66 IIA. I sold it to go to college. I regret selling that truck. This past weekend I bought a 1971 IIA. It needs lots of work. It's frame is shot and motor isn't running. The seller told me it ran when parked 4 years ago. We'll see about that. Anyway it's home now and in my shop. I pulled the plugs and felt for compression with my thumb. 3 cylinders had some sort of compression one had almost none at all. The good news is the body is straight and bulkhead seems to be mostly fine. Here we go! Malcolm Attached Images   ..read more
