You are 50 miles from home.  You are at work, it’s 5pm and you are getting ready to wrap up your day.  The lights in the warehouse or office suddenly flicker then go out.  The radio that was playing in the background is also no longer playing.  It is deftly quite for a few moments as everyone around you sits patiently waiting for the lights to come back on. Five minutes go by as you are talking to your work mates you decide to walk out to your car seeing as the day is over.  You say your goodbyes while commenting that the lights should be back on shortly.  As yo ..read more

How secure can you make your residence?

If you had to "shelter in place", how secure is your residence?   What would you do to secure your home?   Do you have "materials" on hand to secure your home against anyone trying to get in? You may have to use some imagination when securing your home if you don't already have some materials on hand.   If your home has lots of large windows, while beautiful, they are not great if you are looking to secure your home unless you have the money to have bullet proof windows installed.  Most of us don't, so how do you secure that easy access point?   S ..read more

Are you ready?  Do you have a Plan?

If someone asked you right now, if you had a plan for the next 48 to 72 hours, or maybe even just the next hour, in the event of a natural disaster, civil unrest or martial law, what would you honestly say? Imagine you are at work and you're an hour from home, couldn't use your vehicle because it wasn't safe to do so, or it was physically impossible.  You have a child at school and your wife or husband is at work as well.   Say, one of you happens to work in a large city where violence is getting to a point where there is now law and the National Guard has yet to be deployed ..read more

Civil unrest and the upcoming election

We are in strange times.  Civil unrest is at an all time high with cities in a seemingly perpetual state of riot.  With the upcoming election, we have the potential for the unrest to escalate into something much worse than what we are currently experiencing in our country.   While those that live in rural areas may be at less risk of violence than those in cities, the level of unrest we are in danger of seeing can and probably will spill into smaller communities.  If that is the case, are you ready for whatever may happen at your doorstep? Do you have a plan?  ..read more

State of Emergency!!

California, Washington, Florida and a hand full of cities nationwide have declared a state of emergency over the Coronavirus outbreak.  Is this warranted?  Here is why I believe that it isn’t necessarily a bad idea even if it really isn’t warranted.  First, for California to declare a state of emergency over the coronavirus outbreak where there are only 53 currently confirmed cases is ridiculous on its face when you consider the current state of the homeless problem and the fact that there are probably close to 200,000 homeless in California alone.  The current death rate f ..read more

In Part -I we discussed a virus vs bacterium and how they worked.   Now we will go over some ways you can protect yourself against viruses like the Coronavirus and other common viruses like the common flu. Some of the steps for prevention of contracting a virus are “no brainers”.   WASH YOUR HANDS Easy enough right?  You would think so but many people don’t wash their hands during the day after being in public.  Think about your day and where you’ve been.  How many times did you touch something that was also touched by many others thru out a normal day?&n ..read more

Viruses are not bacteria and should not be confused.  Viruses are small nucleic acids that contain information and use your body’s cells to create more copies of themselves.   Bacteria are microscopic living organisms, usually one-celled, that can be found everywhere. They can be dangerous, such as when they cause infection, or beneficial, as in the process of fermentation (such as in wine). Unlike Viruses, Bacteria can be treated with an antibiotic. An antibiotic is a compound that kills bacteria. Antibiotics stop essential cell activities that allow the bacteria to live. For ..read more

An official at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday said Americans should prepare for COVID-19 to spread in their communities and cause disruption after Iran, Italy and South Korea reported a rapid uptick in the number of people who have been sickened. “We really want to prepare the American public for the possibility that their lives will be disrupted because of this pandemic,” Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the Center for the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, told reporters. That uptick in cases of the novel coronavirus over the w ..read more

Living on a coast could provide you with one of the best places to bug out to in the event of a large scale catastrophe where you would need to get out to a safe place.  Offshore oil rigs provide you with almost everything you would look for in a safe place.  Lets look at some of the "upsides" to finding shelter on one of these man made islands. Security You are literally out on a small island surrounded by open ocean so there is no chance of anyone walking up or sneaking up on your camp.  There is only one way to get to you and that's by boat and even then, you will see them ..read more
