This clearly shows why I like the yields although lower but so much more predictable going into the winter months. As steady as can be these 5 days as well as the forecast for the week ahead.  ..read more

Pv cable HOT!

Hi Guys I have a 6kw solis hybrid machine for 8months now. Been very happy with it. I have 10 x 550w panels on a single pv side as it is within the limits of the mppt. Pic attached to show pv voltage and current. I have noticed the positive pv cable gets very hot to the point that the mc4 plug is showing signs of melting. I don't think this is normal? I've up onto the roof and the positive cable is not hot at all coming from the panels. It's only hot between the DC db box and the inverter? The pv is a 6mm pv cable and is around 12 meters of cable from panels to inverter. To resolve this should ..read more

Thanks for a informative forum it really helps us newbi's I am awaiting the delivery of my Solis S6 5K Pro inverter and Hubble AM2 battery - thanks powerforum-store. Based on my ave consumption we use +/- 15 units per day. All the big appliances are A+ rating and better. Gas stove. The inverter's pass-through is 40A. My house is not connected to the garage. Currently there is a 10mm cable between the main BD and the sub DB in the house. Please see the attached layout, based on it I have a few questions:   I plan to feed the house only from the invert's output. The cable size should be ok ..read more

I've got a Victron Multiplus 700W/800VA inverter/charger with a 26V/2.6kWh LiFePO4 battery. Currently the inverter is connected with plugs (230V in / 230V out). The battery is connected permanently via the obligatory red and black 16mm cables. The inverter currently powers laptops, lights, TV+accessories and the kitchen fridge which has a PWM based inverter and is therefore gentle in terms of startup and sustained current draw. I now want to add PV panels to the existing installation, using 4 PV panels, a Victron SmartSolar MPPT and a Victron Phoeix inverter. The latter will only power fridge ..read more

East/West arrays on single string mppt axpert

Hi all.  I have a setup which i put in for my off grid holiday house a few years ago, 6x 540w panels and a 5kva Axpert King III inverter. It runs the house nicely.  But we've now moved here permanently and i'm feeling the pinch a little running work servers/laptops/aircons etc a lot longer and harder than before. My current array of 6 panels faces north east, and I want to add another 6 panels to face northwest/west. The aircons work hardest from 3pm to 5pm and its when i start loosing efficiency on the solar.  My JHB house as 2 x 4 panel arrays on an east/west pitch with an Axp ..read more

Hi all, I am new on the forum and also very ignorant regarding the technical issues on my current inverter installation and settings and really need help. It is sad to advise that the people who did the installation and suppliers are unable to advise on the correct settings. I have manged to change some settings after reading the manual, but I have a feeling that there are settings which are not correct. My installation consists of the following: 1 x 5KVA RCT - AXVM3-5K48V inverter connected to 2 x US3000C Pylontech Batteries and 8 x Jinko/Tongwei 555W Mono Solar Panels and; 1 x 3KVA RCT - AXP ..read more

Hello, maybe this is a stupid question. I'm looking at the specifications of a solar panel (https://cdn.autosolar.es/pdf/ficha-tecnica-1002329.pdf) and it seems that every manufacturer uses STC conditions to rate the solar panel, 550W in this case for 1000W/m2 and 25C degrees. My question is, in the case you have even higher conditions (ie 1200W/m2 at X degrees), could you have even more than 550W with this panel? This question is in general for every solar panel, thanks   ..read more
