Momochromatic G-classes abound!

After a few months using my '88 W460 230GE as a "part-time daily driver", I've noticed how many G's of all series are usually one of four colors....black, white, silver or blue. It's really obvious when you see Jeeps or some of the Asian SUVs on the road. They seem predominantly "pastel" colored, at least as far as I can tell. My little orange SWB stands out whenever I'm around other G's for the most part. I can't count how many guys have asked me if I had it repainted but, nope. That's the... Vos It's Los I'm considering doing "the big three" electrical upgrade. 1-0 gauge cables grounding the battery to the frame & engine, & a cable to the alternator & battery. A lot of stereo buff's do this for better electrical integrity. Has anyone done this to their 126 , & want results did you find good, bad, or ugly. Thank You Rev. Buzz ..read more

Help identifying source of "creaking" noise?

There is a noise that sounds exactly like stepping on old floor boards whenever the weight of the car shifts. When I push up and down on the hood of the car, it sounds like the noise is coming from inside the wheel well, but I can't pinpoint what it's coming from. Would I be able to hear it if it was the inner sway bar bushings? So far I have replaced the outer tie rods, the outer swaybar bushings, and the cv axles. I've perused the stickied threads, but I haven't seen a solid way to... Help identifying source of "creaking" noise ..read more

1988 420SEL Battery Hold Down?
Mercedes-Benz Forum

I'm trying to figure out how a battery is supposed to be secured in my 1988 420SEL. Attached is a screenshot from the EPC with the parts for the battery tray. Which number(s) apply to hold down the battery? The only things I see that might possibly be used to hold down the battery are parts #95 and #104, but I cannot tell from the descriptions in the EPC ..read more

No charge after alternator replacement.

Coming from the BMW world I figured I’d ask for some tips before I pull and warranty exchange the Bosch 150 amp Reman alternator out of my 98 CL500. So, I had the car die one cold morning about a month ago and I threw a fresh battery in it assuming since it was 3 years old it might’ve had a cell die in going from Florida heat to 30F overnight, so I put in a new one. Drove the car for about 30 minutes and wouldn’t restart when I stopped for gas. So, I got a new alternator and after a few... No charge after alternator replacement ..read more

Are 190D's high-maintenance?
Mercedes-Benz Forum

Hello, I'm considering buying a well, maintained, low-mileage (30K) 1985 190D with automatic transmission. I've never owned one before, and am curious what the maintenance schedule is like? Do 190D's require frequent maintenance (e.g. frequent valve adjustments), or regular maintenance with special tools that can only be done in a shop, or can they be easily maintained in your own garage if you have decent mechanical skills? Thank you and looking forward to hearing your thoughts ..read more

I am starting to work on rear calipers on my 1988 560sl and I have noticed that the calipers on there now have 2 pistons on each caliper but when I look to buy rebuilt calipers, I notice they on show 1 piston each. Which is correct? Did someone rebuild them previously and use the wrong type of caliper? Thanks, Dennis ..read more

Drive Kit

Hi, I still have a few jobs to do on my C126 before I take it out on it's first summer run, spark plug, leads, coolant flush and refil, engin oil change and some more. However I'm thinking of a small "Drive Kit" to address some potential issues I may encounter when out and about. What do people think? Is it too cautious, or under provisioned? ---------------------------------- Drive Kit Idle Control Valve - 000 141 16 25 - Cheap Knockoff Fuel Pump Relay - 003 545 25 05 - Cheap...
