I can only keep livebearers alive in my tank
Aquarium Advice

Every value in my tank looks ok but for some reason, only livebearers can live like mollies and platys. Every fish I put has died in less than 12 hours while the 4 livebearers live great. I and people at the pet store can't seem to figure out why. Please help if you have any clue why this happens ..read more

Thank you in advance for help! We have a 200L tank and just purchased 5 juvenile female angel fish, after a 1hr acclimation we added them all to the tank and they were all friends initially… after 1-2hrs in the tank one started being very aggressive to the other angels. First question… is it normal to be this aggressive so early on? Second question.. we are going to return the aggressive one tomorrow but overnight can we leave it in a net hanging in the tank? We don’t have a quarantine tank... Read more ..read more

Why did my levels change overnight?
Aquarium Advice

I’m a bit new to fish keeping, but I do understand some of it. I have an API master test kit that I’ve been using to keep track of my levels. For the last week I’ve been dealing with high nitrates with 0 nitrites and 0 ammonia. I’ve been doing water changes and checking my nitrates every day and they still haven’t done gone down. Yesterday I performed a 60% water change which I finally noticed that my nitrates were down to about 10-20. (They were about 40-80 before). I was relived that I... Read more ..read more

Trumpet snails changing color?
Aquarium Advice
by fearlessfisch

I introduced Malaysian trumpet snails into two different tanks, one with black substrate and one with white. All the snails were medium brown in color when introduced, and all came from the same group. Now, many months later, I notice that all the snails in my white-substrate tank have white shells, while the snails in the other tank remain brown. Is this a camouflage adaptation, or is there something wrong with the water quality in the white substrate tank? The snails seem... Read more ..read more

Gambusia
Aquarium Advice

The past few years I've been keeping more native fish to Central Florida than the imported ones. This is one of my favorites, a speckled male Eastern Gambusia. He's actually the offspring of an offspring of a more white male with less spots. Who would have guessed that from 6 rather bland looking fish from my culvert would eventually yield a fish like this ..read more

While doing my water ghange Oscar hides in a hollow log. When going to turn on the water for the python to start the vacuum he must have jumped ship. After filling the tank I started looking for him by this time he had flopped under the stand and was dead. When the covers are on there are no holes for escape.I never thought of him getting out while working on the tank I thought I would see him if this happened. Now I need to find pleco another buddy and a way to keep this from happening again... Read more ..read more

Hi, so i am creating a live aquarium and currently in the stabilization stage prior to adding the plants. Its a 75gal tank, aiming for a 6.8-7PH (which my last stick test showed i was in that ballpark), sitting at around 78F. Its going to have redtailed sharks, pearl gourumis, congo tetras, and a pleco in there eventually (and if i feel like im not overcrowding i'll grab some swordtails). In the past when i had fish tanks i never really paid attention to anything on the test stick except... Read more ..read more
