30" Eagle carved from basswood. usually guild the eagles with gold leaf or faux gold but watched a Rick Butz video on YouTube and wanted to stain this eagle. It came out a bit darker than I wanted and also wasn't sure how glued up basswood would stain. I think luckily it was pretty even with an oil based stain, and banner and shield is acrylic paint. Okay, let's assume that I'm dumber than a box of rocks, which has been stated many times by my wife. I found a local lumber yard that has kiln dried basswood by the board for 6.50 per board foot. Then there are a bunch of lumber lingo I don't understand. For example sizes, I don't know what 4/4, 5/4, 8/4, 12/4, 16/4 means. Or how I should buy it. The sizes are all in the rough. Any help would be appreciated ..read more
