Just getting a preliminary post in to start getting ideas of what to check. I am a bit strung out and worried right now, so i am just looking for where to start looking and diagnosing. This is an 89 4runner with a 3vze manual trans. I commute over a decent hill every day and have noticed the truck getting slower and slower over a few months. At the start of the year I could almost hold 5th for the hill, last few months its been a 4th gear hill. This morning, I pulled out and started accelerating and quickly noticed something changed, mid acceleration it suddenly felt like someone lightly pull ..read more

Helpful tool for 1st Gen BRAKES?

Has anyone been wrenching recently on anything brake related? Pads, calipers, parking brake, drums, anything... I'm asking for a little help... I'm building a tool to help work on my 2002 Tacoma. I've trained an AI on 1st gen taco brakes... but want to make it better. If you have a few minutes to ask it a few questions about Tacoma brakes that would be cool. It should be fast, accurate and provide sample pictures + videos. There's a 10 question survey where I'd benefit from responses from people like us who roll up our sleeves. All you have to do: ASK questions about Toyota Tacoma brakes ..read more

Good morning. A search was unsuccessful for me. For the life of me, I cannot identify ANY identifiable timing links on the double-row chain I am about to install in my 20R. Can someone enlighten me on this by maybe having one laying around, counting link to link (including the marked links), and letting me know the number? I would be most thankful for your efforts and answer. Steve ..read more

89 4Runner Tailgate Window Motor (yay)

So, I bought a 1st gen 4Runner a few weeks back that was shall we say “mistreated” in her previous life. I’ve been working out odds and ends the last couple weeks and during my lunch break today I went to roll down the rear window and now I can’t roll it back up, but can continue to roll it down. Originally thought the contacts for the switch could be corroded as the window would roll up and down the last few times but was never consistent (for reference, my center console switch isn’t even wired up, I can only use the key at this time as there are no wires currently running to my center conso ..read more

1986 Toyota Pickup Brake Help

Hey all, I am new to the site and have a question about the brakes on my truck. When you press the pedal it has a slight catch. I changed the brake booster and it got better and now happens intermittently but hasn't gone away. It feels as if something is being blocked or not sliding correctly. The brakes work fine but do feel a slight bit touchy. I measured the brake booster push rod off the factory booster and adjusted the new one to the same spec and adjusted the pedal link to have about 1/4" of travel. Could it be the master cylinder piston not sliding properly? I'm at a loss. There is no l ..read more

Just got a new 1987 mint 4Runner. Rear leaf springs are sagging. Was going to get a new set of OME springs that claim to have a 2" lift. New Bilstein shocks all around too. Will I also need to add shackles to the rear? Hoping I don't have to, but do I need to mess with the front, add a set of ARB Front Torsion bars or 2" front spacers? Hoping I can just add the new OME springs and shocks and be GTG! Thx ..read more
