Nick Mangold: Effort and Consistency
Jets Rewind

A number of years ago I was at the Jets facility at Florham Park, NJ attending one of their open practices. When the Jets team broke into position play, I gravitated to watch the offensive linemen. I normally do this because of my experience playing the position and because this group was closest to the fence I was at, giving me a clear visual of the drills. Being no more than 15 feet away, and watching these huge behemoths with a combination of speed and bulk, I was thankful my career as an offensive lineman was short. In one of the drills, one player who was in the center of ev ..read more

Shaun Ellis: Defensive Line Reliability!
Jets Rewind

When you think of Jets defensive linemen of the past and sacks, Mark Gastineau, Joe Klecko and John Abraham are probably the first ones that come to mind for long time Jets fans. If you look closer, Shaun Ellis is one of those players who produced consistently but might not have been as appreciated. With 72 1/2 lifetime sacks, Ellis is third on the Jets career leader list ahead of Gerry Philbin, Verlon Biggs, Mo Lewis and the aforementioned John Abraham.   Shaun Ellis was born on June 24, 1977 in Anderson, South Carolina which was the home town of the NBA’s Larry Nance and MLB’s Ji ..read more

NY Jets Lance Mehl: Small Sample Size, Huge Effort!
Jets Rewind

Lance Mehl played eight seasons for the New York Jets. As what seems to happen with many Jets, when there is a good one, there is always something that curtails possible greatness. In this case it was a barrage of injuries. Two of the best games Mehl played before his injuries stand out to me. One of the greatest playoff victories I ever saw for the Jets, was when they beat the the Bengals in Cincinnati on January 9th, 1983. In that 44-17 victory,  the offense got most of the publicity particularly Freeman McNeil, Wesley Walker and Richard Todd. All of it was well deserved. But un ..read more

Schupak’s Final Draft Big Board Top 51
Jets Rewind

The cream rises to the top as Kyle Hamilton moves back up into the top 3 after dropping the last four weeks. In what I consider a weak WR class, Jameson Williams and Garrett Williams crack the top 10 with teams trying to delay paying WR1 the inflated prices that have exploded in the NFL. Nakobe Dean drops down to a late first rounder. And safety Daxton Hill continues to get momentum moving up in the first round. Derek Stingley Jr jumps up a few spots and Drake London did not do himself any favors not running a 40 at his Pro Day dropping to a late first round pick. I know I'm in the mino ..read more

Draft Thoughts & Prospects
Jets Rewind

I don’t know about you but I’m “mocked out.” I can’t look at another mock draft, hear about a Deebo Samuel trade or listen to another so called expert tell us why Kayvon Thibodeaux is slipping. I can’t take it anymore. Bring on the draft already! But because I drink the Kool Aid everyday, here is my top three prospects at every position. If you don’t see someone, look again. I may have grouped an edge with the defensive linemen.  I also included an overhyped player and a player to keep an eye on. All subjective stuff.  It’s about now that my Dan Marino/Ken O’Brien nightmares h ..read more

NY Jets Bill Baird: A Solid Piece of a Great Defense!
Jets Rewind

Before Darrelle Revis, Aaron Glenn and Antonio Cromartie, there was a Jets  player who played both cornerback and safety, who had a nose for the interception. Bill Baird only started 80 games in his Jets career (playing 98 total games) but had 34 interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. His 34 is still the New York Jets record! To put this into perspective, two other notable Jet cornerbacks were mentioned above: Revis had 25 interceptions in 108 games and Glenn had 24 interceptions in 121 games.   Bill Baird was born in Lindsay California on March 1, 1939. He play ..read more

Schupak’s Draft Prospects Top 51, 3.0

Two players dropped out of my top 51 prospects list, quarterback Sam Howell and cornerback Deion Kendrick. Listening to Chris Simms, I drank some of his Kool Aid with his wide receiver rankings, though I don’t think the two Buckeyes (Wilson & Olave) are as overrated as he thinks. I moved Travon Walker up based on his Combine showing but I just don’t see the production. To me he is more Vernon Gholston than Willie McGinest. Gun to my head, I’d chose Jermaine Johnson over him.                              ..read more

Wayne Chrebet: NY Jets Star Who Played Big!
Jets Rewind
by MARTY SCHUPAK

As football fans we always talk about players who take plays, quarters and even games off. We speak to our friends and one of us always says something like: “These NFL players have it so good making all that money. They don’t appreciate what they have and I don’t want to hear any complaints about how rough they have it.”  The Jets had wide receiver Wayne Chrebet for 11 years. He made the most out of every second on the field. He never took any plays off, and always appreciated the opportunity he had. Secondaries were never intimidated by Chrebet. Taller and more athletic cornerbac ..read more

Jets Free Agents Hits & Misses

Never has a Jets twitter crowd had a love/hate relationship like they do with the Jets General Manager Joe Douglas. First he was in jeopardy of losing his job because he didn’t sign anyone 5 minutes after the tampering period of free agency started and not making an offer to the Cowboys for Amari Cooper. Then they love him for signing a couple of tight ends and other free agents. Then they hate him for not going after Robert Woods from the Los Angeles Rams. Jets fans have to appreciate the job the Jets GM is doing. Do I agree with everything he has done? Absolutely not. But he is not s ..read more

NY Jets Winston Hill, Offensive Line Royalty!

"Winston Hill is one of the finest men I've ever met in my life. Good Lord. He was just wonderful. Without him, or with a lesser effort by anyone in that position, we wouldn’t have been able to win the championship.”                                                        -Joe Namath     Winston Hill played for the New York Jets for 14 seasons. When anyone asks me what type of Jets player do I like, I always answer the same way: I love ..read more
