A number of years ago I was at the Jets facility at Florham Park, NJ attending one of their open practices. When the Jets team broke into position play, I gravitated to watch the offensive linemen.  When you think of Jets defensive linemen of the past and sacks, Mark Gastineau, Joe Klecko and John Abraham are probably the first ones that come to mind for long time Jets fans. If you look closer, Shaun Ellis is one of those players who produced consistently but might not have been as appreciated.   Lance Mehl played eight seasons for the New York Jets. As what seems to happen with many Jets, when there is a good one, there is always something that curtails possible greatness. In this case it was a barrage of injuries. Two of the best games Mehl played before his injuries stand out to me. One of the greatest playoff victories I ever saw for the Jets, was when they beat the the Bengals in Cincinnati on January 9th, 1983.  The cream rises to the top as Kyle Hamilton moves back up into the top 3 after dropping the last four weeks. In what I consider a weak WR class, Jameson Williams and Garrett Williams crack the top 10 with teams trying to delay paying WR1 the inflated prices that have exploded in the NFL. Nakobe Dean drops down to a late first rounder. And safety Daxton Hill continues to get momentum moving up in the first round.  I don’t know about you but I’m “mocked out.” I can’t look at another mock draft, hear about a Deebo Samuel trade or listen to another so called expert tell us why Kayvon Thibodeaux is slipping. Before Darrelle Revis, Aaron Glenn and Antonio Cromartie, there was a Jets  player who played both cornerback and safety, who had a nose for the interception. Bill Baird only started 80 games in his Jets career (playing 98 total games) but had 34 interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. His 34 is still the New York Jets record!   Two players dropped out of my top 51 prospects list, quarterback Sam Howell and cornerback Deion Kendrick. Listening to Chris Simms, I drank some of his Kool Aid with his wide receiver rankings, though I don’t think the two Buckeyes (Wilson & Olave) are as overrated as he thinks. I moved Travon Walker up based on his Combine showing but I just don’t see the production. To me he is more Vernon Gholston than Willie McGinest.   As football fans we always talk about players who take plays, quarters and even games off. We speak to our friends and one of us always says something like: “These NFL players have it so good making all that money. They don’t appreciate what they have and I don’t want to hear any complaints about how rough they have it.”  The Jets had wide receiver Wayne Chrebet for 11 years.   Never has a Jets twitter crowd had a love/hate relationship like they do with the Jets General Manager Joe Douglas.
